Born in Komotau Czechoslovakia, Erika immigrated to Canada in 1952 where she attended Vic West, Esquimalt High School and graduated from St. Ann’s academy. Erika had a few different jobs in her life, the princess Mary, the Royal Bank and then a few different ministries in the BC government.
In 1964 Erika married Frank Veerkamp. Erika and Frank loved to travel and have gone almost all over the world, one of their favourite places was Venice and the highlight was a family trip to Alaska to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Mom had numerous interests over the years, she could speak several different languages, sang in the German Edelweiss Choir for many years, played in the Balalaika Orchestra, and square dancing. Erika volunteered at several soup kitchens and the Lodge at Broadmead. Amidst all these interests Erika’s greatest love was for her family, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and they all knew how much she loved them.
Erika leaves behind her loving husband Frank of 57 years, her son Michael (Donna), daughter Sonja (Rudy) all grandchildren Colin, Natasha, Shyanne, Jenna, Christopher, Tarissa, Jayleen and great grandchildren Brynlee and Henry.
The family would like to thank 5th floor at Selkirk for their care and compassion. Service to be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, 849 Old Esquimalt Rd, Victoria, BC, on Thursday, December 22 at 12:10 pm.

Dear Frank & family, I’m so sorry to hear of your dear Erika’s passing last year–in fact, tomorrow will be the one-year anni. I’m an entire year behind! I haven’t kept up with my Christmas cards so decided to search Erika’s name online before sending cards. Of course, the obituary was the very first entry. I’m so sorry. The two of you were so great together, & I’m so glad & grateful I met Erika in 1998 at Min for Children & Families in downtown Victoria.
