It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Emiline on April 1st in her home in Victoria, B.C. Predeceased by her spouse Richard Trevor Hayden, she is survived by her sister Julie McCann, her two children Cameron and Dana (Robin) Hayden, and her two grandchildren Cordell (Donnie) Bonnieux and Justin Bonnieux. She will be dearly missed by her family, and her many friends.

Emiline was born in Bruderheim Alberta, the daughter of John Prilusky of Russia and Nellie Yasewich of Austria. Emiline moved to Edmonton when she was young and later worked as a corporate secretary and as a legal assistant. She then moved to Calgary where she worked in the oil and gas industry, primarily as executive assistant to the President of Petro Canada. She moved to Victoria in the late 1980s and retired after a few years. She spent her retirement years traveling the world, watching world events and she always had strong opinions about local and international politics. While she loved to travel, she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life for Emiline was held at 2:00 p.m. on May 5, 2023, at the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Cross-Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.

  • David & Marisha, no.9.

We regret that we only knew Emiline, our ‘new’ neighbour, for a few short months. But we really enjoyed getting to know her, and wish we could have been friends for longer. She was clearly a strong, adventurous, forthright lady with a very keen mind and a sharp sense of humour.
We were deeply saddened to learn that we had lost her, far too soon. We’ll miss keenly her presence, kindness and wonderful character; attributes that are too rare in this world.
We offer our profound sorrow and sympathy to her family and close friends, and share your sense of loss. We miss her every day, and she leaves a hole in our hearts.
She was a wonderful lady, and the earth is the poorer for her passing.

I will dearly missed her. Too bad that I never keep in touch with her. She really a very nice lady. Thank you Dana for the message. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Cam and Dana, Robin, Justin, & Cordell,
Words can describe your loss but not encompass your grief, nor can they express your love for and pride in your mother. We won’t try to do either, but will say with all of our hearts, that we shall miss her deeply, and feel deprived of one of the best people in the world. We loved and still love her, and hope that all of you are forging ahead in your lives, as she would wish, and would do.
    Love,
    Chris and Jan

I always looked forward to my visits with Emiline whom I considered a dear friend. Our conversations covered a wide range of topics, but invariably the subject would turn to politics and she had little time for the bureaucratic bumbling and posturing so prevalent in today’s politics. She was a real breath of fresh air and I will miss our times together. My condolences and best wishes to Dana & Robin, Cam, Justin and Cordell.

I feel the loss of a wonderful woman, Dana’s mum, who I got to know the past few years. We became fast friends because she reminded me of my own mother who like her, was intelligent, engaging, funny, spirited and yes “feisty.” She was her own person, brimming with character and personality, opinionated which I find totally enchanting. Alan and I are so deeply sorry for the loss of the one of a kind Emiline. It was also striking how Dana and her mum were friends, so rare. It was the same for me so I know the loss.

I was lucky to have Emiline as a neighbour for 30+ years. I always enjoyed her sharp mind and feisty wit. She will be missed by all of us at Royal Links North.

Dana, Cam, Robin and all Emiline’s family, we are thinking of you all. Emiline loved her family more than anything in the world. We will miss her candid comments, scintillating opinions, and wonderful sense of humour. We feel so honoured to have had her in our lives, she made us all better people. We love her still.

My sincere condolences to Dana, Cam and her two grandsons. Our friendship goes back to Petro-Canada days and we maintained that friendship for 48 years. She was a great lady and will be missed. Her knowledge was vast and her travels extensive. Keep the good memories. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Cam & Dana I truly loved your mom & enjoyed reconnecting to my favourite Aunty. She loved all of you her children & grandchildren. She was the smartest woman I knew & I also thought the same of Cam & you. I so enjoyed our Christmas Eve or Boxing Days together.
Much love & I will make a $100.00 donation to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Crises. My husband was also one half Ukranian.. Much love to all of you

When they coined the word “feisty” they had Emiline in mind. Such a joy to be around. We were alway enthralled by her stories of people she had met and places she had been. So blessed to have had our adopted grandma in our lives! Our thoughts are with her family.
