Elizabeth passed peacefully on July 29th, 2008, aged 92 years. Predeceased by both her husband, Henry ‘Eric’ Butler, Lt Commander RN, RCN, DSO, in 1986 and her eldest son Christopher earlier this year. Born in Ayrshire, Scotland, Elizabeth grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina and returned to Scotland as a young woman. She met and married Eric at the start of WWII. After the war she moved with Eric and daughter Pat to Palestine where Eric was District Commissioner with the British Colonial Service. The family then emigrated to Canada where Elizabeth had many roles, including running the family farm, owning and managing a pharmaceutical importing company, and working as a department manager with McMillan Bloedel in Vancouver. In her retirement in Victoria she spent many years as a volunteer with the MS Society and the Cancer Agency and enjoyed wonderful times with her many friends and family. Elizabeth is survived by Patricia (Robin), Vicky (David) and Gary (Pattie, deceased) as well as six grandchildren, three step-granddaughters and two great granddaughters. Elizabeth’s life was one of elegance, grace and generosity.
