It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Elizabeth Eileen Kleinschmidt “Betty”.

Betty was born in Stratford, England on March 29, 1932. She spent her childhood in Dagenham (East London) which was impacted during the London Blitz. During this time Betty was one of the many children who were evacuated from the city to the countryside of England. Betty often spoke of this time in her life as it shaped her strong spirit and resilient nature.

Betty was an English girl through and through but craved a sense of adventure and travel. In 1953, she was sponsored by her aunt to come to Canada. Upon arriving in Canada, Betty worked for Capilano Lumber and Trans Canada Airlines in Vancouver.

It was at Trans Canada Airlines that Betty met the love of her life, Ronald Dean Kleinschmidt. Ron and Betty were married in 1961 and had two sons Steve and Jeff. Betty was a loving mother and wife who supported her family during their moves across British Columbia and into the United States.

Betty was the life of the party, animal lover, friend to everyone she met, and a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Betty will always be remembered for her charm, humour, and wit.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years Ron, son Steve (Susan), son Jeff (Debbie), her brother David (Jenny), her grandchildren Sydney (Clint), Cameron (Paris), Amy, and Melanie, and her great-grandchildren Creighton, Callahan, Adelaide, and Charlotte.

No service will be held per Betty’s request. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the MS Society of Canada https://mssociety.ca/  (Betty would like to thank the Richmond branch for their over 20 years of support) or the BCSPCA https://spca.bc.ca/  (Betty loved animals).

Betty’s family would like to thank the staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria for their excellent care and compassion.

We will love and miss Betty every day.
