With great sadness his family announces the death of Dr. Kenneth Warren on January 17, 2023 in Victoria, BC from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Husband of Sharon and father of Ben (Nicole) and Dan (Melina), grandfather of Ben and Nicole’s children (Max, Leo, Boden) and Dan and Melina’s children (Henry, Nicholas). Dr. Warren was predeceased by his parents (Don, Dorothy) and his brothers (Bill, Bob), all from Southwestern Ontario. Ken was born on February 15, 1944 in New Waterford, NS but grew up in Mitchell, ON. He attended Mitchell District High School where he was active in their sports program, including a turn as quarterback of the Blue Devils football team. Ken next enrolled at the University of Western Ontario, graduating from its Faculty of Medicine in 1972 and subsequently completed postgraduate training in Neurology with a special interest in multiple sclerosis. In 1978 Dr. Warren became founding director of the University of Alberta Multiple Sclerosis Patient Care and Research Clinic in Edmonton, where he served thousands of patients and maintained an active research program, including experimental studies of promising Clinic-developed therapies, until he retired in 2013. One of his favourite fundraising activities for the Clinic was the annual Barrhead-Fort Assiniboine MS Trail Ride (photograph shows him with a horse he rode). Ken’s main hobby throughout adult life was running and he was especially pleased to finish the New York City Marathon at age 65. Reading became his main pastime after retiring to BC, in particular physics and mathematics which he enjoyed introducing to his grandsons. The family wishes to send special thanks to SureWork Solutions and Sunrise Senior Living for the wonderful care they provided in Ken’s later years, and to McCall Gardens, of Victoria.
