Dorothy passed minutes after listening to beautiful love songs. Her daughter, Donna and granddaughter, Kaya were holding her hands, and playing pre-recorded love songs sung by her beloved late husband, Helmut J. Wende (1969). Her second late husband, Peter G. Over (2007), also gave her many joyful years. Predeceased by her mother Mary (Robertson) Crook, father Alex Crook, sister, Betty Shenton (George) and brother, Francis Crook (Virginia). She is survived by her son Dennis (Sheilah), and grandchildren, Brian and Lisa.
Dorothy was proud to grow up as a farm girl in Pincher Creek, Alberta. All of her relatives were very important to her as she loved writing letters, calling and attending reunions and she saved all of their letters.
She worked as an Employment Counsellor for the federal government and her favourite assignment was greeting refugees at the Victoria airport, helping them settle into an apartment and finding them appropriate jobs. She kept in touch with many of them. Gardening was another passion and she created a beautiful natural garden on her large property by uncovering wild flowers and moving native plants where they could thrive, also filling the lawn. Wildlife flourished, especially deer and hummingbirds. She was known and loved for her frequent smiles, kind words and gratitude to everyone around her. Her last words were reported to be, “Thank you.” Thanks especially to her caregivers. Dorothy is loved and dearly missed.
She did not wish for a funeral. You may send memories for family or a future photo presentation, or to be contacted, to dorothyomemories@gmail.com. Donations may be made in her name to a local environmental charity, or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
