Dorothy Robertson passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023 at the age of 95.  She was born April 30, 1928 in Eatonia, Saskatchewan to Maurice and Lilah Hayes.

Dorothy spent her childhood in Eatonia and attended Bailey school. With four sisters and five brothers it was a busy farm that she grew up on. Later, as a young woman she lived in Saskatoon and then Calgary where she held clerical positions in doctor and dental offices. It was in Calgary that she met her soon to be husband Kenneth in 1953 who was in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry at the time, and in the same year they were married.  After several military postings including Germany, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Port Arthur, Dorothy and Ken moved to Victoria to raise a family.

Mom was very busy as a homemaker, dedicated volunteer, wife and mother to Patricia, Warren and Blair. Starting in the early 70’s she spent many years teaching Sunday School classes at Oak Bay United Church in Victoria. This was a passion of hers and she spent countless hours preparing lessons for the young children.

Mom loved baking, volunteering, gardening, walking and travelling. She had a heart of gold and was generous with whomever she encountered. She always cared for the feelings and welfare of others, particularly with family but also with everyone she met.  She was a prolific writer with wonderful penmanship and all that knew her, particularly family, could count on receiving a wonderful card or letter in the mail for every special occasion.

Dorothy was kind, she was generous, she was respectful, she was loving, and she instilled these values in her children. Dorothy was always thankful for the kind acts and thoughts of others. She was often heard to say “Thank you for your kindness” one of her favorite sayings, and when she said it you knew that in her heart she meant it.

Dorothy is survived by daughter Patricia (John) of North Vancouver, BC, son Warren (Sheena) of Victoria, BC and son Blair (Nancy) of Victoria, BC and grandchildren: Ryan (Sarah), Sean (Dalila), Lauren (Ben), Callum and Arran, great-grandchildren, Katerina, Isabella, Olivia, Hayes and Euan, and great great-granddaughter, Cataleya, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Kenneth, sisters Margaret (John), Thelma (Bob), Florence (Harry), Alice (Clare) and brothers Bill (Laviah), Percy (Phyllis), Richard, Gordon and Ross.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Sunrise of Victoria and to Dr. Sundren Govender for their care and compassion.

Mom, you will be missed by us all.  We will love you forever and always.

To Warren, Blair & Patricia…I was saddened to learn of the passing or your mother. For many years, I was the tax accountant for the many businesses that your father had as well as the tax returns for the family. I dealt mainly with Ken but occasionally I met with your Mom as well & as others have said, she was always kind & gracious. I think that the last time I saw her was when we were on the same ferry over to Vancouver & had a nice visit then. I am sure that she will be missed by the 3 of you, the grandchildren, great grandchildren & great great granddaughter! She must have been very proud of the flock but all of you will have memories of family times together. With sincere condolences,Jim Lee!

Dearest Patti and to your family,

My thoughts are with you everyday.

The few times I met your mum, she always greeted my with the warmest smile. A smile that radiated.
I remember her bringing us juice and cookies, and every word she said, even a hello, was so kind and heartfelt. It is impossible to ever forget how she made you feel, even if it was for a moment.

Sending you all of my love.

    With deepest condolences,
    Janet.

    Patti, Blair and Warren
I remember your mom so fondly, when Patti and I were in St Margaret’s together . She welcomed us for sleep over dinner and was always so happy being the hostess to us , we had such great times . Fast forward to after school and adult hood I would run into her shopping , she’d look at me with a big smile, I would say Hi Mrs Robertson remember me Heather Buchan . The smile got bigger and arms went around me. It was just like my mom hugging me .
I wish I could be with you to give you a big hug , but know I am always there for you . Hugs and love Heather Buchan
