Broadcaster/Golfer Dennis Fitz-Gerald speaking “I loved the media world, television in particular. The 60’s, 70’s, 80’s , what a wonderful time to be in the Mad Men ‘Business’. Montreal Gazette, Globe and Mail, All-Canada Radio and Television, CTV and City TV/Much Music. It couldn’t have been any better! I’ve had a wonderful family and group of friends in business and on the golf course to spend my life with. I’ll be waiting for you on the other side with my clubs and a bottle of scotch. Don’t rush because I’ll be catching up with old friends like Gary and Henry, and family including my Mom and Dad, sister Marge and my beloved first wife Jean. I’ve had an incredible life and I thank all of you for being a part of it. I’ll be leaving behind Dorothy my loving wife of 21 years, my amazing children Tom and Kelly of whom I am so very proud, and my five grandchildren Daniel, Ben, Paul, Patrick and Megan.
Please don’t think of me being gone. Just as when you’d see me walking off the 18th green, after I was out of sight I wasn’t gone. I’m just heading off to another round at another glorious course. I don’t want a service or a memorial. I just want all of you to raise a glass, or a bent putter, and remember the wonderful times we shared together. Cheers to you my friends, until we meet again.”
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
If you are so inclined, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or your preferred charity.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Claude P. Desjean Dear Dennis. It is with great sadness that I heard of your passing from our friend Marie Harbinson. From the time you hired me in MTL, believed in me, and had me believe in myself, I have always considered you my Mentor. My career with All Canada was most rewarding and enjoyable. I particularly cherish the memory of the encounters we had over the past ten years or so in MTL., and Out West with you and your dear Dorothy. Merci for the memories, and fare thee well my dear friend. Claude P. Desjean

France Daoust Dear Dorothy my sincere condolences for Dennis passing. I will always remember him telling me “women from Québec have such a french flair”. Take care.

Ray and Heidi Peters We read the news today of Dennis’ passing with great sadness. The obituary brought back a lot of memories of working with Dennis during the Golden Years of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The television industry gave us great opportunity to be creative with new and different ideas. It was the time of experimentation when, together, we built a very strong television industry in Canada. We all worked very hard, but we were all having fun.
Our condolences to Dorothy and the family. You are in our prayers.

Pip Wedge I so much enjoyed working with Dennis during his years at CTV; we shared a mutual respect that carried us through many crises without acrimony. His self-worded obituary was a joy to read, to help me through the sadness of his passing. Many condolences, Dorothy, and so many happy memories.

Very sad to learn about Mr. Fitz-Gerald’s passing. My Dad, Gary Buss, and he were great friends and I am glad that they are together again. I think I hear more laughing and cursing with playing cards flying in the air.
