After a hard fought 5-year battle with multiple cancers, David “Wayne” Piper passed away at home Apr 29, 2024, just shy of his 81st birthday. Wayne was born May 5, 1943, in Kingston, ON. Predeceased by his parents Veronica Elizabeth West and Walter Alfred Piper and grandson Darrel Tchir. Survived by his beloved wife Julie, son Rob, daughter Wendy, brother Ray (Leanne), grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, cousins and lifelong friends Tom and Sandy, Vern, Valerie and Greg.
Wayne grew up in Kingston, was an alter boy and developed a passion for sports. Basketball, hockey, baseball, football and eventually curling.
Wayne enrolled in the RCAF Dec 6, 1961. Many postings in Canada including Borden, Winnipeg, Cold Lake, Parent, Holberg and Alert. He also did a peacekeeping tour in Egypt. Last posting was to Victoria in 1990. Wayne was fortunate while serving to play on many National teams the sport he loved best, softball and slo-pitch. Wayne retired from the military in 1996, settling in Victoria.
Retirement was short lived as Wayne joined the Commissionaires in 1997 until completely retiring in 2014. Lucky enough to spend those years at the Canadian Coast Guard.
Wayne spent many years travelling to St. George, Utah, to play slo-pitch in the Huntsman Senior Games. Loved cruising with Julie and many trips to Las Vegas.
He will lovingly be remembered and forever missed by his family, friends and teammates.

Bob James Very sad hearing about Mr Piper’s passing. I say Mr Piper as that is all I ever knew him as growing up. He told me many times to call him Wayne but could never bring myself to. So many memories at the ball park or at our house laughing, telling jokes, or playing cards with everybody. He always took the time to ask me how I was doing, offer a word of advice, or just to talk. Mr Piper will be missed.

Tom & Sandy James Julie & Family
It is with great sadness & loss that we say goodbye to our good friend Wayne. He was a man with 9 lives & lived each one to the fulliest. Pipe & I have known each other for over 40 years & have had many great times together. Our times have included playing sports, travelling & having the odd cold one together.
Sandy & I had the pleasure of going to Wayne & Julie’s wedding in Reno & also seeing the Continental Cup Curling with them in Vegas. Wayne loved his casinos whether in Vegas or Victoria & his Keno trips were a big part of his life in the later years. A gentleman at all times, Wayne had a way of bringing a little warmth to your day when you were with him. We will miss you our friend.
RIP

Dave Giacomelli Julie,
Our heartfelt condolences are with you now…I often think of our times together all those years ago…and they are good thoughts and good memories. I did not know that Wayne was in Alert…I was too in 1968…we could have compared stories!
Again Julie, may your memories together lift and support you at this time…take care, Dave

Julie I am so sorry, I was very sad to hear about Mr. Piper’s passing. As my brother said we grew up calling Wayne Mr. Piper and that is who he will always be to me.
Being one of my dad’s closet friends, Mr.Piper was around the house a lot and always called me squid something that will always stick with me. He was one of the kindest, friendliest people that came around our family and I will never forget his laugh….I still hear it in my head.
I’m saddened that I didn’t get to see more of Mr. Piper in my adult years but you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace❤️
