Gord Smith Dave and I worked together on and off since the early 90s’for the same employer. Dave was a skilled mechanic, always a real character, never short of an opinion and willing to share it. As you got to know Dave, he had lots of interests and knowledge on a variety of topics. During the FIFA U20 event in 2007 that was being held in part at Royal Athletic Park, the main mower for the field broke down and as Dave was trying to trouble shoot the issue under a time crunch various employees were giving their opinion on what the issue was so Dave stated “When you wanna-be’s – know nothing at all mechanics finish, get out of the way so a real mechanic can get to work!”. A couple of expletives might have been added in there as well but is was a typical classic Dave comment. Dave was always good for a laugh at work.
Dave will be missed. Condolences to the family. A talented, funny and interesting guy has left the shop floor for the last time. RIP Dave.
