Dave Shoemaker passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on December 19, 2021, with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, and their children, Lauren Shoemaker and Scott Shoemaker.  Dave, a long-time member of Carpenters Union Local 1598, was a carpenter-foreman on many large construction projects in Victoria. He enjoyed coaching youth soccer, baseball, and softball in Gordon Head. He loved his cats and other rescued animals, giving each a forever home. Dave built furniture we will treasure, along with our wonderful memories.

Living in our hearts, with us always.

A private viewing for the family was followed by cremation.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I was an apprentice under Dave for two years during his Dura construction days….. it is a testament to his insight and good nature that I still think about him often. I just happened to google his name tonight and was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I moved away from Victoria and never got the chance to thank Dave guidance and job site friendship. My condolences to his family,,,

I would like to pass my condolences along to Elaine, Scott and Lauren. My husband (Murray) and son (Chris) worked with Dave on many of those large construction jobs. Murray passed away in 2004 and Dave was one of the first people who Chris said I had to let know. Murray and Dave quite often had lunches together after their ‘Sandbar’ days, he always called Dave his ‘Little Buddy’. That was meant as an honour…not many co-workers got that. Dave was one of the hardest and most reliable workers going. He loved his job. Chris said this morning, when I told him that ‘Dad’s Little Buddy’ passed away, ‘he must have quit working, Dave was the type of guy that would work till the day he died’.
We are so sorry for your loss.

Very sad to hear of Dave’s passing. I was his business agent at “Carpenters local Union 1598” for many years. I always enjoyed Dave’s stories, as well as many stories about him by other carpenter members who worked with him. Dave was a legend in the construction industry and will remain in the history of many buildings he helped build in and around Victoria. I will always consider Dave as a friend as well as a member of our Union. My condolences to his family, friends, and other workers who enjoyed Dave’s antics and direction over his career. He will be missed. Sincerely Shan O’Hara
