Dave Stubbs passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 88 from cancer complications.  He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Marge: children Russ (Elisa) and Jeannie; grandchildren Ben (Riki), Kyle (Lauren), Jordan (Amy); and great-grandchildren Sean, Murray, and Gemma.

Born is Didsbury, Alberta, Dave moved to Victoria at a young age.  Following several generations of carpenters, he started his apprenticeship at the age of 14.  His career evolved into building many fine homes and neighbourhoods across Greater Victoria.

Over the years Dave and Marge enjoyed many leisure activities including bowling, curling and traveling, particularly to Hawaii and Arizona.  Never one to miss out on a good time, he made friends wherever he went.

An avid golfer, up until a few weeks ago, Dave could be seen at the Royal Colwood Golf Course six days a week. The other day he could be found having lunch with his Wednesday buddies.

Dave was a kind and fun-loving man, who respected people. The family would like to thank all those that were part of his life.  Known for his cheeky comments and greaser hairdo, we know how important everybody was to him and especially if he called you AH!

Private family services were held at McCall Gardens on Thursday, October 12, 2023 with a Burial at Royal Oak Burial Park.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    Marge, Russ and family

My wife and I extend our deepest sympathies to your family over the loss of Dave. For a number of years, in the 60’s and 70’s I was the planning director for Saanich Municipality and had a great deal of contact with Dave. He was a great builder and, quite simply, a lot of fun to work with. My wife, Kelly, knew Dave subsequently in her role as Executive Director of the Victoria Home Builders Association which he held before beginning her law practice. She also has very fond memories of Dave and enjoyed working with him. He left you all super memories of a life well lived.

Marge, Louise and I were deeply sadddned by the news of Dave’s passing. He has left a lasting and very fond impression on our hearts. He was one of my first contacts when I joined Royal Colwood and a dear one it turned out to be. We had many revelatory discussions about my father Bill and Dave and their frequent workouts at Ove Witt’s facility in the Strath. And how could I ever forget the ‘special’ salutation Dave had for me whenever we met at the first tee. I could go on and on but please know Dave is going to be fondly remembered by both of us. We share in your sorrow Marge. May he rest in peace.

  • John McMillan
