It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Darlene. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. Predeceased by her brother Rick in 1992, father John in 2015 and mother Hazel in 2020. She leaves, to mourn her passing, her husband Bill Newburg, daughters Andrea Plaisier and Lisa Newburg, grandsons Will and Lincoln Plaisier, sisters Susan Aldridge and Sonya (Paul) Russell as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Darlene was born and raised in Victoria and embraced her community throughout her life. She was a great friend to many and remained active until recent times. Darlene was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of Oak Bay and completed a 37-year distinguished career at CIBC where she retired as the manager of the Oak Bay branch in 2013. Darlene also enjoyed travelling, crafting, reading and gardening. She received the most joy from spending time with her family and friends. Darlene will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

We wish to thank Dr. Mursell, Dr. McGhie and staff at the cancer clinic for the care provided to Darlene during her long struggle with brain cancer.

A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive with reception to follow.

If you are unable to attend with us in person, please join us virtually via zoom.

My condolences to all of Darlene’s family, whom I know she held so dear. I worked with Darlene for 6 months, and she was a very special person – so much more than a boss – she was patient, kind, caring, understanding & unflappable. She spoke of her family often, and valued every moment she spent with you. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. My sympathies & thoughts are with you all.

I always enjoyed a giggle with Darlene when we lived on Loenholm Place. I bumped into Darlene and you Bill at Uptown about a year or so ago – even with all she was dealing with Darlene had something to say to make me laugh.
My heartfelt condolences Bill, Andrea and Lisa.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Darlene over the years at CIBC and even though we never got to work together at the same branch she was always so warm and friendly. You could tell she genuinely cared about her staff and coworkers. During the time I worked with Lisa at Hillside many years ago, I could see there was a very beautiful bond between mother and daughter. Praying that you will find comfort in your memories of your very special Mom

Our paths crossed many times during our careers at CIBC especially after my retirement when she was Manager of our Oak Bay branch. Darlene was a very special human being whose smile brought light to everyone’s day by always being engaged, caring, and interested in those she touched. Quietly she made a difference and will be missed by many. My condolences to her family.

We are all so saddened back here in Ontario. We so enjoyed our chats and texts. We never had the time with you that we would have liked to, but what little time we shared you were always cheery and upbeat. You are well respected and loved by all of us back here at home. Hugs for all the family from all your family here.

    Sincere condolences to her family.
She was a true professional with a excellent disposition in my encounters with her as a client while she was a CIBC manager at the Oak Bay branch. These days it is difficult to find excellent bank managers.
    She will be terribly missed.

To Bill and family, there are no words to express the feelings you are having for your loss, Darlene was such a strong fighter. I was pleased to have talked with her at our summer block gathering. Her strength and determination and humour was deep. I lost my sister to cancer a year ago and every time I think of her I remember us laughing and reflecting on our family moments. Hopefully remembering Darlene and the energy she gave to her family and others will help you get through these times. Take care.

  • Heleentje

My hugs to you all. Darlene was a tough trooper and I enjoyed all of our conversations, visits and Facebook banter :). ❤️
