Clara Irene (Renie) Wilson
Mom was born near Brierley Hill in England on January 7, 1916, and passed away peacefully at home in Sidney on January 28, 2009. Renie’s fate was sealed when she met Alec while visiting her Aunt in Birmingham. Alec was visiting his Uncle who boarded there. Upon meeting Mom, Dad immediately declared that he had met the woman he was going to marry. Although Dad returned to duty in Italy and Mom went back to work at the Goodyear factory they managed to marry during a furlough. At the end of the war they immigrated to Regina, where their first son was born. Mom and Dad eventually settled in Nanaimo where their remaining three children were born. She raised her family, living at the same house on Machleary Street for thirty-three years until a fire destroyed the home in 1983. Soon after, she moved to Victoria and lived with Rose and Rick until her passing.
Mom was predeceased in 1975 by her husband, Alec, and shortly after, by her only brother Howard. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her sons Ian (Joann) and Mal (Sue) and her daughters Heather Murcheson (Jim) and Rose Patterson (Rick). Mom is also survived by eleven grandchildren (Sean, Reid, Bethany, and their mother Jane; Carrie-Anne, Michael, and Stephen; Kim, Brent, and Karen; Caitlin and Matthew) and three great-grandchildren ( Jack, Alex, and Brody) and several nieces and nephews.
Rose and her family unselfishly cared for Mom in her later years, especially when her health declined. Granny will be especially missed by grandchildren Caitlin and Matthew, who lived with her their entire lives.
Renie was a gentle and kind woman who was loyal to family and friends. She enjoyed knitting, crosswords and reading. She was witty, patient and resourceful, making many sacrifices to provide a warm and loving home through challenging times. Mom taught us the value of honesty, hard work and perseverance. She had a fondness for flowers and sunshine, fish and chips and sweets. She was truly loved and leaves us with many rich memories.
