Cindy died peacefully at her home on Pender Island on August 26, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 25,1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. She is survived by her husband David, children David, Debra, and Amy, grandchildren Sanaa, Shaheedah, Shay, Alex, and Mylo, and brother Stephen.

Cindy grew up in Catonsville, Maryland a suburb of Baltimore.  Following her graduation from high school, she attended Lycoming College where she met David her future husband. They married in 1965 following her graduation and moved to Baldwinsville, New York where David was continuing his education at Syracuse University. Cindy taught Spanish and French at Baldwinsville middle school for 2 years until the birth of their first child. Following David’s graduation they moved to State College, Pennsylvania. In addition to raising her young children, during this period she opened a fabric store and returned to school to train as a medical transcriptionist.

In 1984, the family moved to Victoria when David accepted a position at the University of Victoria. During her career here Cindy worked as a medical transcriptionist at Victoria General Hospital and then for the cardiac group and a cardiovascular surgeon. She retired in 2000 which allowed her to spend more time on her passion of quilting. She had an extensive fabric stash and made dozens of quilts many of which she donated to local hospitals. She was a member of multiple quilting groups and taught quilting workshops for several local shops.  In 2005 she and David moved to Pender Island. Cindy loved living on Pender and had an extensive network of friends who gave her wonderful support during her illness.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to BC Cancer Foundation.

    To David and family,
Sent an email but it would not go through. I am so sorry to hear about Cindy. I was also a Spanish major and we had many times together in class and with the Lyco Lovelies. What a reunion with she and Glennie and Hayle. I know they will have open arms waiting for all of us. Blessing and peace for you and the family. She left so many memories, mainly made us stronger with her faith. I love Victoria. Had a tour company and took many groups to the Island. It was such a beautiful place and Rodgers Candy made my day. I never knew you were there. Our hugs and prayers are with you. Dottie Hays Maitland 65

So sorry to hear about Cindy’s passing. She and I were Spanish majors together at Lycoming. My husband, Tom, and I enjoyed spending time with the two of you when we lived in Liverpool, NY. Cindy and I were college friends. I remember her ready smile and friendly, outgoing nature. What a huge loss for you and your children. Thinking of you, Dave.
