With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Christopher R. Loomer, MD, in Victoria BC, Canada on July 15, 2022, at the age of 74.

Chris was born in Saint John, NB on January 9, 1948, the only son of the late H. Avard Loomer and Irene S. Currie. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Loomer (née Martell), and their four children: Geoffrey (Lindsay), Robert (Erin), Karen (James), and Andrew (Courtney). Chris also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Nathaniel and Samuel Loomer, Isla and Sebastian Loomer, Luke and Elena Fraser, and Jensen Loomer. He will be missed by many relatives and friends.

Chris graduated from Saint John High School, going on to Dalhousie University for his BSc, followed by his MD in 1974. He practiced family medicine in Saint John for 8 years before returning to Dalhousie University to study Ophthalmology. The family relocated to Victoria BC in 1988 where Chris practiced Ophthalmology until 2001. He returned to Saint John and continued to practice until illness forced his retirement in 2005.

Despite health challenges, Chris always kept a positive outlook for the future. He enjoyed following professional golf, watching Green Bay Packers football, keeping his car meticulously clean, and joking with family and friends. He loved visits to Disney World and going on an occasional cruise. His most cherished times were spent with Mary, his children, and his grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, July 25 at 11:00 am at Royal Oak Burial Park, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC., V8Y 1B4

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vasculitis Foundation Canada or a charity of one’s choice.

I was so saddened to hear about the passing of Chris. He was such a loving, caring family man.
The service yesterday was lovely and the music was inspiring.

I did enjoy the reception afterward at Geoff & Lindsay’s home. It was nice to talk to everyone after so many years since I have seen you, Mary and Geoff’s brothers, sister and their families. I was happy to be able to attend.

Having lost my husband, (Lindsay’s father) a few years ago, I centainly understand how you feel. Chris will be forever in your heart. I know you are strong and will have the loving embrace of your family for support.

Hello Mary, Geoff/Lindsay, Karen/James, Rob/Erin, Andrew/Courtney and families. Certainly much sadness coming this way with the passing of a fine husband, father, grand father, father-in-law, brother and ‘sister’-in-law! A good man and doctor forced by illness to give up his practice at such an early age…We saw him suffer in silence, still maintaining his great sense of humour; he certainly enjoyed reminding me of the Toronto Maple Leafs ‘occasionally’! Our father liked Chris…had he not we’d definitely have heard about it…:) Chris Loomer will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him…Forever in our memories. God Bless! Andrew and Jean.
