Carole-Anne Zilkie (Bealle), 75, of East Sooke, BC, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Vancouver in 1948, Carole’s family moved to Vancouver Island in 1953.
Carole went to school on the Saanich Peninsula, and then began a long career as a teller with CIBC. She held the highest standard when assisting her customers with their financial needs, never backing down when the ‘sales first’ approach tried to overrun customer service.
Carole’s most cherished times were at the East Sooke property and the Port Alice cabin. Her #1 Bucket list item became a reality when she and Heidi travelled to New Orleans in 2012.
Carole will be remembered for always being there for her family and others, and never backing down when it came to anything she believed in. Being a long-time member of the Legion both in Langford and Sooke she donated countless hours volunteering her time.
Something you may not know is that Carole saved the lives of two people who were pulled out to sea by the riptide in Tofino. She spent over 30mins in the fridged water to rescue a man and a child. Carole is a hero, who wanted no praise, and needed no attention.
Carole is now pain free…leaving behind her husband and best friend of 58 years Ron, children Carl (Noel) and Heidi (Jason), grandson Ryan, sister Kellie, and many cousins. She is predeceased by her brother Craig, and brother-in-law Russ.
Carole’s family would like to give special thanks to the dedicated staff at the BC Cancer Centre (RJH) and Ayre Manor (Hospice) in Sooke.
As per Carole’s wishes, there is no formal service planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made directly to the Sooke Legion (Branch 54).

Our sincere condolences to your family on the passing of Carole. We remember Carole as being very friendly asking us to come and visit. I always knew when Christmas was near as we would get our first Christmas card of the season from the Zilkies, Carol and Ron. Don once told me he as a teenager used to babysit Carole so that Johnny and Ileane could could have a night out when they were visiting Don’s mother ( Auntie Anne) in East Vancouver.

Penny Bealle (Carole's cousin) Dear Ron, Carl, Heidi, & Kellie. I send my heartfelt condolences to each of you. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time and always. I’m so lucky that I spent an afternoon with Ron & Carole at Kelie’s in August 2023. I have fond memories of her perky spirit then and from many childhood visits with her family. Carole took immense delight in life’s moments with family. I loved hearing her stories of how she enjoyed her crib games, jigsaw puzzles, Port Alice adventures, and volunteer work at the Legion. In August 2023, she was excitedly anticipating the upcoming visit of her grandson Ryan and had wonderful activities planned (Dinosaur museum visit, Malahat Skywalk, cherished childhood swimming holes). My fond recollections of Carole was mainly her being a toddler, or stories of her carried as a baby for a surprise visit to my brother Johnny’s job site up island, where there was much scurrying to find accommodation for mother Ileane…& baby Carole!
