On August 4, Carol (“Mandy”) passed suddenly of heart failure, with her devoted husband, Bill Wakeham, by her side. Born in Edmonton to parents Anne and Eugene Schmid, pre-deceased by brother Robert (Cecilia) and niece Christine; lovingly remembered by brother Peter (Barbara), nephews, Greg, Kevin (Jane), David (Theresa/ Payton) and all Bill’s family. Carol had a stellar career as a Registered Nurse at Royal Alexandra Hospital, worked in Occupational Health for Alberta Govt, taught at NAIT, then moved to Victoria with husband Sam Vine (d.) and owned Aarons on Wharf restaurant, then worked for WCB until retirement.
Carol met Bill Wakeham and they quickly became constant companions, boating around Victoria and spending winters in Mexico with good friends and Bill’s family. They loved the pool, beach, dancing, golf, card games (Carol usually won), were ardent sports fans. Carol was easy to love. She was calm, kind and compassionate, a creative cook (great Caesar salad), a loving sister and true friend, a positive and supportive loyal life partner, who always saw only the best in everyone. She will be dearly missed.
A private Celebration of Life will be held.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
