Carlos Braz

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carlos Braz on December 7, 2019. Carlos was born in Silvares, Portugal on April 9, 1949 where he lived until the age of 7 years old.

He leaves behind the love of his life Carmen, whom he was blessed to have shared 50 years with. The two of them did everything together.

Carlos is survived by his mother Maria Braz, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other family members and friends.

He is predeceased by his Father Antonio Braz (2005) and his brother Joe Braz in (2015). Carlos immigrated with his parents to Canada in 1956 and made their way to Osoyoos, BC where he grew up on an Orchard helping his parents with the fruit and ground crop.

On February 1, 1969, Carmen and Carlos, both from the same home town in Portugal, married in Osoyoos, BC. In 1970, they purchased Hannigans Burger King Drive in Osoyoos which they ran and operated for 5 years. In 1975, they moved to Victoria to join family that had made their way to the coast.

Carlos enjoyed many fishing trips to Port Renfrew and Sidney Spit, hunting, and many memorable camping trips with family and friends. He was quite the entrepreneur, one of his hobbies included bee keeping where they produced an abundance of honey. He was a man of many traits.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Jerry Shea who selflessly donated his kidney to Carlos in 2010 and gave him 9 more years of life. We are forever grateful to you.

We would like to thank all the doctors and hospital staff who cared for Carlos over the years and took great care of him.

Prayers will be offered on Friday December 13, 2019 at 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 4635 Elk Lake Drive, Victoria, BC.  Entombment will follow at Royal Oak Mausoleum.
