Brodie passed away peacefully on May 2, 2019 surrounded by his loving family, following a brave battle with brain cancer (and for the record, he did not lose his battle – the cancer died with him, so technically it was a tie). He is survived by his wife and love of his life Kim; daughters, Sidney and Kiley; loving parents Randy and Linda; grandma, Beth Friesen; sister, Deidre (Ryan); nieces, Evelyn and Rose; nephew, Samuel; brother, Marty; special in-laws, Joe and Vivien Stott (the Immigrants); brother-in-law, Brad; nieces, Belle and Piper; nephew, Bowen; loyal dog, Swiffer as well as numerous other relatives and loved ones.
Brodie lived large, loved fiercely, and always had a smile to share. Ever the prankster, Brodie loved to laugh and make others laugh, from his hilarious songs sung around the campfire, to his reputation at Dockyard for ensuring ladder safety. He was lucky enough to have two years to live like he was dying, and he took advantage of every day and all his credit card travel rewards.
He enjoyed many, many things – among them craft beer, camping, playing guitar, singing, hockey, free beer, slow pitch, travelling the world, brewery tours, brewery t-shirts, cold beer, breakfast sandwiches, Hawaiian shirts, hot sauce, and above all, his family. He despised lima beans, shoddy wiring, being hungry, running out of beer, and brain tumors.
Tremendous and heartfelt thanks go to the exceptional staff and volunteers at Victoria Hospice, who provided much more than nursing care, but also provided a peaceful and compassionate environment for Brodie (and his family and friends) during his transition from this life to the next.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Brodie’s name can be made to Victoria Hospice, https://www.victoriahospice.org/, RedCross Home Equipment Loan Program, https://www.redcross.ca/how-we-help/community-health-services-in-canada/health-equipment-loan-program or your favourite watering hole, where you are requested to enjoy a few and tell stories of the great Brodie Johnson.
Celebration of Life to be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 2:00 pm.

Annette Kenny My family slopitch team played their very first game over two decades ago with the Chameleons slopitch team. We went on to play them many, many times over the years and Brodie was such a character. So friendly and so much fun! We always looked forward to seeing him on the ball field or in the beer garden. So on behalf of all the Dt’s, our condolences to all his family and his extreme amount of close friends! Rest in Peace Brodie!

Pam and Brent When we think of Brodie we think of true bravery something most never see from day to day. He was a remarkable individual who made you feel welcome in his presence. We were blessed to know Brodie and be touched by his humour, goodwill and kindness, attributes that will live on through his daughters. We want to honour his life for the rest of ours he has earned that.

Mac McCuaig Being a friend of Brodies is a gift.We were not super close but he was my friend. I cant imagine the pain his family and close friends are going through right now. Just know that when some song or moment on the ice, campground, workplace or slow pitch diamond that makes you think of this amazing person instead of drawing a tear of sadness it will become a grin and possibly an all out belly laugh. The memory of him will never leave us nor will his legacy of friendship. Rest in Peace my friend.

Brian and Kathy Driver I (Brian) only got to meet Brodie a few times, but both Kathy and I feel like we did get to know him through his loving Mom and Dad. On the occasions our paths did cross, I was struck by how much he loved life and his family. It was a joy to be with Brodie and experience his smiles and grace toward me and others. It was also so uplifting to watch the bond he and his Dad enjoyed. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers at sent to the entire family but especially to Kim, Sidney and Kylie, and Randy and Linda through this time of extreme sadness. Our prayer is that the God of hope will give you all much peace and comfort during the days ahead.

Bob Campbell My condolences to Kim, the girls and the rest of the Johnson family. I’m a better person for having spent time with Mr. Larger-than-life Brodie. He taught me how to love and live life and to be inclusive, not exclusive. I’m going to miss our encounters in the Dockyard. Rest easy my brother.

Sonia Schellenberg We first met Brodie seated on his grandparents’ couch. He was the biggest one year old anyone ever saw. Right from the beginning, he was preparing to be larger than life. His personality was similarly outsized, as everyone at his wedding can testify to: that boy could do a mean country two-step! His love of life came across powerfully, even as his illness progressed. Recently, we spent an evening with Brodie and Kim in Las Vegas, taking in dinner and a show. He made it easy for all four of us to have a fantastic evening. That was a gift that we will always treasure. His death has had a profound effect on us, and we are especially heartbroken on behalf of his parents, wife, and daughters.
With much love, Aunt Sonia and Uncle Chuck

Dave and Sharon Sims Dearest Kim, we are both so very sorry about Brodie’s passing. Sometimes life is not fair at all and this is certainly one of those times. When we think of Brodie, we think of him as being extremely “fun loving”, a dedicated worker, and a loving husband to you and a wonderful Dad to Sidney and Kylie. At Brian and Shannon’s wedding he got me, Sharon, up jiving with him and it was such fun and something I will never forget. He got this ol’ doll dancing up a storm. Dave remembers Brodie so graciously standing in as Lindsey’s uncle at her’s and Pindy’s wedding. Brodie is a man we will not forget. We send much love to you Kim, and to Sidney and Kylie. Xxoo
-
Carmen Ross Dearest Kim, Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to you, the girls, Brodie’s parents and extended family and friends. We’re so sorry for the profound loss of your wonderful Brodie. Love, Carmen and Lenny Ross xo

Brodie, I miss you man. I think about you everyday and Henry and Lauren talk about you fondly (Hayden is too young). Covid-19 is not much fun, and it would have been especially hard for you as social as you were. I still offer help to Kim and the girls anyway I can. Its nice to see the website is still up.
