STUBBS, Betty Morris (nee Ellis)
Born July 4, 1918 in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, died in Victoria, BC on August 13, 2008. Betty was a lifelong sports fan, golfing and curling until her 80th year. She was a proud member of the BC Senior Women’s Curling Team, winning two national championships and she was recently inducted into the Victoria Sports Hall of Fame. In recent years Betty has followed golf, curling and lacrosse from the sidelines. She and her great friend, Laura, travelled the globe, both in pursuit of their common interest in a good bonspiel and to explore other countries and cultures (including participating in an African Safari!). Notwithstanding health problems in the last few years, Betty did not let her indomitable spirit flag and she continued to face every challenge with courage and humour. Betty was predeceased by her dear husband, Hugh in 1989 and leaves to mourn her nephews, Ron and Frank Timmis of Vancouver, BC as well as many dear friends who have helped her so much in recent years, including, but by no means limited to, Laura Foster, Bill Sharpley, Pat Bell, Joan Homer, Renee Norman, Kay Raisbeck, Rob Scott and family, her life long friend, Helen Schwanbeck and her faithful canine companion Toby.
Funeral Service to be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 4, 2008 at St. Alban’s Church, 1468 Ryan Street, Victoria, BC, Reverend Edwin Taylor officiating. Reception to follow.
