Ineke passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC on February 15th, 2019. Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on October 31, 1937.
As a young child, Ineke was one of many children who were sent to the relative safety of the rural town of Haaksbergen, to spare them the worst of what World War II would otherwise have caused them. It was during this time, on a farm owned by his aunt and uncle, that she would meet her future husband, Gerhardus Antonius Westendorp, forming a bond of love that would last from that time forward.
She was married in 1956 and at the age of nineteen, she moved to Calgary, Canada to join her husband in raising a family and building a successful contracting business. After many years of hard work, they retired in 1979 to the Victoria area where her days were spent with her passions for flowers, travel and family.
Ineke is survived by her husband of sixty-two years Gerry; son Jerry Westendorp, his wife Lee Hissette, their son Jeremy and daughter Taylor; her son Glenn Westendorp his wife Angela and their daughters Serena and Vivian; sister Anja Ernsting; brother Rob Ernsting and his wife Lenie. Ineke was predeceased by her daughter Jane Hirt, son Roger, son-in-law James Hirt; sisters Inge and Tina; her brother Joop and his wife Marian; and brother Ben and his wife Anna.
Her family wishes to thank her many friends and relatives whose strength and words of support have helped us through this difficult time. We would also like to offer a special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital whose care allowed Ineke to pass in peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Netherlands Club, 733 Vanalman Avenue, Victoria, BC, on Friday, March 8th, 2019 from 1:30 to 4:00 pm. RSVP’s may be directed to ernwest@shaw.ca.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation https://bccancerfoundation.com/ways-donate/gift-memory.
