Austin William Charles Henneberry passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family and their love, in Victoria, BC on December 8th, 2021, after a short battle with cancer. Born in the Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia, he was predeceased by his parents William and Vera Henneberry and by his younger brother Kenneth.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eileen (Zwicker) and his four children: Kimberly Henneberry Glover (Charles Glover), Maple Ridge, BC; Robin Henneberry (Michael Hoddinott), Victoria, BC; Austin Henneberry, Victoria, BC; and Glen (Katerina) Henneberry, Barrie, ON. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Tiffany Glover (Swithin D’Souza), Ottawa, ON; Nicholas Glover, Maple Ridge, BC; Jacklin Henneberry, Victoria, BC; Jordan Henneberry, Victoria, BC; Alexandra Henneberry, Victoria, BC; Sheldon Henneberry, Barrie, ON; and Lauren Henneberry, Barrie, ON.

Austin served in the Armed Forces from 1958-1971. His military career included posts in Gagetown (NB), Kingston (ON), Cyprus, and Nanaimo (BC). Upon leaving the military, Austin worked for Harmac Pulp and Paper Mill, as an Engineer and retired after 25 years of service. Following retirement he assisted his son, Austin, in his business, A & A Home and Lawn Maintenance, for a few years. He then worked for the Commissionaires for 13 years, until illness forced him to step down in August of this year. Austin thoroughly enjoyed his time with the Commissionaires where he made many friends.

Austin was a kind, caring gentleman, who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved socializing with others, had a great sense of humour and an infectious laugh. He was an avid bridge player and a fierce competitor. He had a great love of the ocean. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

A celebration of Austin’s life will be held at a future date. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.  https://donate.bccancerfoundation.com

Dear Aunt Eileen and sweet cousins, I am so sorry for your loss. Uncle Austin was always a kind, fair man who always treated us younger ones with lots of love and fun. I know this is a terrible time for all of you, as you have all had amazing relationships with him that you will miss dearly. But still, 64 years married to the love of his life! How blessed is your family to have been loved for 64 years by such an amazing person? God Bless uncle Austin and all of the rest of you! We are sending our love and light and prayers, from your East Coast family, to help you through this trying time. ❤️

Austin’s smiling face was a pleasure to see at our offices every month, delivering paperwork for A & A. A true gentleman, he was a real gem. My heartfelt condolences to Eileen, Austin Jr. and the entire family on your loss.

I had the honour of knowing Mr. Henneberry since I was a young man and must say he was a great person to have known. My condolences to his family in their time of mourning.

Sorry to hear of Austin passing. He was a very good friend and we had many happy times together i first met the Henneberry’s in 1967 when I first moved to Nanaimo and our children took highland dancing together. My husband and I enjoyed their company (along with Muriel and Kenny Prosser who have also passed) we have not seen as much of Eileen and Austin since they moved to Victoria but have many fond memories of our times together. We will miss his kind and gentle manner. Rest in Peace dear friend, Cathy and Bill Taylor
