Anne (Clode) Norrgard Dear Rae, Andrew, Kathleen, Tom and Susie,
I watched the lovely tribute to your gentle father from my home in Courtenay today and was filled with all kinds of wonderful memories of your family. In the late 1970s I was a new foster parent and often felt out of my depth. Pat showed me how to remain calm during a crisis and and Rae laughed with me once things had settled down again. I was honoured when I saw his newspaper silently shaking as I retold our latest adventure. They modelled what a loving partnership looked like and proved that it does not matter how children came into your family – once they arrive, they are loved. They both made me a better person.
It saddens me to know that Pat was not well at the end but I was delighted to hear that any personality changes he experienced only confirmed how much he loved you all. A gentleman to the end.
Wishing you all peace and many blessings in the future.

Eileen, Sharlene and Leanne (O'Keeffe) Rae and Family,
We were very sorry to hear of Uncle Pat’s passing. May your many wonderful memories help to comfort you and your family during this difficult time.

Terry Cruickshank My most fond memories were when we lived next door to Uncle Pat on Washington Ave. As kids we would come over at all hours and sometimes we would find Uncle Pat sitting in his best chair with his feet on the open oven door drinking his late morning coffee. He never made us feel unwanted and always had time for us. Although we lost touch later on he will always be cherished in our hearts. To Rae and family I send only the best of wishes in this time of sorrow. Just know that he led a happy and good life.

Reid Hetherington My Poppa was probably the kindest, most decent person I ever knew. He was a man of great wit and humour; often soft-spoken and unassuming, his quiet contributions would break through at the most opportune moments and could bring a whole room to uncontrollable laughter. Some of my fondest, most vivid childhood experiences are of visiting my grandparents as a kid. I would always look forward to our trips to the island to see my Nana and Poppa and the rest of the family. Those memories are some of my most cherished, and he will be missed tremendously.
