Our father and friend slipped quietly away on Monday, August 9, 2021, after a brief illness.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Joan in 2012, his parents William and Margaret, his brother George, sisters Edna and Kathleen. Arthur is survived by his sister Joan and will be sadly missed by his children David (Alison), Paul (Correne) and Susan (Paddy), along with grandchildren Jordan, Kylie, Jessica, Alana and Sara, and his dear companion Anneke, who brought much happiness into his life.
Arthur was born in Warrington UK, and travelled to Canada in 1957 to pursue his career as a civil engineer. It was in the Thunder Bay region of Ontario that he met his soon-to-be bride, Joan. They married in England in 1959 and moved to Vancouver, B.C., where David was born. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Australia – Joan’s home country – where the arrival of Paul and then Susan, made their little family complete. In 1969, Arthur and Joan made Canada their permanent home, settling finally in Victoria where Arthur put his wide range of skills to work, extensively remodeling a number of lovely homes for his family.
Always active, Arthur was a keen participant of many sports, including and especially golf, curling and lawn bowling, where he met and became good friends with many like-minded people. In addition, he was a passionate and sometimes ferocious bridge player who was known for his sharp skills and strategic play.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who cared for Arthur during his final months – in particular, doctors Joe, Skinnider and Bachynsky – along with the kind staff at VGH’s 6 South, who supported him and the family during his final days.
A reception to honour and remember Arthur’s life will be held at a later date – please check McCall’s website.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Anita Martin It’s with sad regret that we can’t be there to support our Canadian side of the family at this time.
Arthur has been in our thoughts and prayers are being said.
We had some wonderful memories of our time with my uncle Arthur and hopefully we will see you all next year.

Betty Moss I was deeply sorry to hear of the passing of Art. He will be greatly missed by many friends. On reflection I thought of the many times that Jim and I and Art and Joan had fun times together with holidays and parties. I know in time that you will think of the happy times you had with him too. Thinking of you all at this time.

Susan (nee Logan) Ferguson I was sad to hear of Art’s passing. I was lucky to play with Art in a mixed fun… albeit competitive tournament a couple years ago at Cedar Hill. He reminded me so much of my own Dad that it made the experience more fun and heart warming too. We spoke of his son Paul who I went through school with and how my Dad was also a civil engineer who had immigrated from the UK in 1950’s. Art was so easy to talk to and laugh with; he really made me feel comfortable that day. I golfed this weekend and everyone that knew Art was saying how missed he will be and what a gentleman he was…oh and of course what a great dresser he was. How fortunate you were to have had such an amazing man in your lives for so long. Our hearts go out to you.

Angela Lucia We are very saddened to read of Art’s passing today. We met Art at the Cedar Hill Golf Club and enjoyed his company at many of our mixed tournaments and gatherings. He was a real gentleman, very polite, and well dressed. All tournament play was cancelled this past year + during the pandemic and so was the loss of keeping in touch with many of our members including Art.
Our sincere condolences to all of his family.

John Davies I was sorry to read of Art’s passing this morning. He and I worked together for years at public works. He and I played bridge against each other after we retired. He did not like to lose!
My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Art Antrobus. He and I were partners in Bridge at the Hampton Seniors and the Corona Virus botched our ability to continue to play well against the other members of the Bridge group. He was my favourite partner and I will miss him with much sorrow and fondness. Cheers to in life and death Art.
