Arden was born September 30th, 1975 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. He peacefully passed away November 9th, 2016 in Victoria, BC following open heart surgery.

Arden attended Elementary School in Kindersley, Saskatchewan until moving to Mill Bay, BC in 1990 and graduated from Cowichan High School in 1993. Soon after graduation, he moved to Jasper where he started working at the Jasper Park Lodge. He met a core group of friends there that soon became family and remained close to all of them though the rest of his life. With his love of people, his bright personality and his wicked sense of humour, the hospitality industry was a natural career path. After Jasper, Arden and his friends made the move to Calgary where he resided until May, 2016. He remained in the hospitality industry until Oct 27, 2008 when he suffered an aortic dissection followed by almost a year in hospital due to many complications.

His courage and determination to live got him through more health concerns than anyone should have to face. It was that grit along with the love and support from family and friends that enabled Arden to learn to walk again and find a new normal even with new restrictions. Through it all, his love for his family, friends and especially the biggest joy in his life Devin, Leya, Jaxon and Mason only grew. Arden was able to visit China and Indonesia when his Dad was working in the Oil Industry. Family visits took him across Canada but Vancouver Island was always his home and in May of this year he moved back home to be near Devin, Leya, Jaxon and Mason. He was happiest around children, dogs and in his car dancing to music.

Our hearts are shattered and will forever miss our beautiful soul. There will always be a void in our lives. He was predeceased by his step father Bryan Halpenny, his maternal and paternal grandparents, uncle Glen Reid and several great aunts and uncles. Grateful for his life and mourning his loss are his father Don MacLean (Wang Li), sister Wang-Dan, Mother Judy Halpenny, sister Amber MacLean, brothers Brett (Richelle) Halpenny, Logan Halpenny (Brittany) and his adored nephews and niece Devin Krishan, Leya Krishan, Jaxon Halpenny and Mason Halpenny and many more friends.

There will be a Memorial Service at 2pm on Wednesday, November 16th, 2016, in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria. Also, at a later date, there will be a Celebration of Arden’s Life in Calgary.

If desired, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Arden’s name.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.
