It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Anne Theresa Troutman who passed away peacefully in Victoria at the age of 88.

Anne, born and raised in Calgary, AB, was the eleventh child of twelve born to Margaret and James O’Brien from Belfast, Ireland.  Surviving her are two sisters (Rita Bison and Peggy Pooke), one brother (Frank O’Brien) and forty nieces and nephews.

Moving to Victoria early in her life, she met and married the love of her life Raymond Troutman who predeceased her in 2013.  During their 44 years of marriage, they enjoyed travelling to exotic destinations, golfing, boating and entertaining.  During those years, she worked at VGH and various doctor’s offices in private practice.   It was during that time she secretly decided she wanted to make a career in the medical field.  With great determination and long hours of studying, she achieved her goal and became a nurse.

Anne joined the Uplands Golf Club where she eventually became the first female president.  Despite her busy schedule, she found time to garden and was known for her many garden parties.  Anne loved entertaining and hosted many memorable parties over the years. Though Anne had no children, her children were her beloved dogs whom she loved unconditionally.

As we bid farewell to Anne, we take comfort in the thought she is now surrounded by those she loved and had predeceased her.

Anne will certainly be remembered by many of her loyal friends, both personal and professional.  The family wish to extend their gratitude for those who sat by her side and held her hand in those final hours.  Special thanks go out to the staff at the Bridgeview Unit in the Gorge Hospital for taking such good care of her during those long months spent in the unit.  The staff will fondly remember her for her expert exiting skills.

Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 11:00am September 25, 2023 followed by a celebration of Anne’s life and reception at 2:00pm at Uplands Golf Club, Victoria, BC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.  Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed below.

It seems like yesterday….. Auntie Anne! What great childhood memories I have of all of us gathering at Nanna and Grandpa’s place! You chasing us downstairs, talking to us, bringing us treats.

It seems like yesterday….. Auntie Anne and Uncle Ray! What a perfect couple! Their love was infectious. We all felt it with their ‘joie de vivre’ We saw it when Anne looked his way. We heard it in Ray’s laugh.

It seems like yesterday…… Visiting Auntie Anne and Uncle Ray. What perfect hosts. Always welcoming, always so generous, always wanting to know about you and how your family was doing.

It seems like yesterday …. The sadness of Uncle Ray’s passing and witnessing Auntie Anne’s strength to carry on and to live life positively in celebration of the life her and Ray shared together.

And now today…. heaven awaits! Your strong Catholic faith brings you home at last. We all take great comfort knowing that you are surrounded by your beloved Ray, your brother Joe and Eva and all your family who have gone before you.
