It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the patriarch and guiding light of our family, Amarjit Singh Hundal, passed away after a brave and graceful fight with cancer.

The devoted husband of 44 years to the late Abnash Kaur Hundal and the eldest son of the late Bakhshish Singh and the late Mohinder Kaur Hundal, Amarjit leaves behind his beloved twins; son, Jasminder, and daughter, Taninder Dhillon (Anantdeep); Grandchildren, Amreet Kaur and Japneet Kaur Dhillon; Siblings, Harminder Kaur Kullar (Tarvinder), Rishminder Singh Hundal (Baljit), Satinder Kaur Sandhu (Lakhbir), Tejinderjit Singh Hundal (Balwinder) and Gurjit Kaur Deol (Surjit); and many loving nieces, nephew and friends.

Amarjit was born and raised in the family village of Jalbhe. He was a quiet, yet forceful leader who obtained his Bachelor of Arts from D.A.V College, Hoshiarpur. In 1958, he joined the Indian Air Force where he remained until coming to Victoria, BC in 1970. He started working with Maplewood Poultry (Lilydale) and remained with them until retiring in 2005. He married Abnash in 1974 and in 1977, they gave life and love to twins Jasminder and Taninder (aka Sonny and Tina).

Dad was a spiritual intellectual, devoting many hours to reading and understanding Sikh history and religion, and held a keen interest in sports and politics. Many hours were spent watching NHL, NBA and NFL games and he himself played with the India Tigers in the Vancouver Island Men’s Field Hockey league from 1971 to 1991. He was a quiet man and only spoke what needed to be said, often leaving behind impactful sentiment that remained with you long after a conversation was over. He was the foundation upon which this family was built, not only for those that left India for a better life, but also in matters of character and decency.

Upon retirement in 2005, he spent his time caring for Abnash as she navigated the changes in her health with diabetes and dialysis. He was a shining example of a devoted companion. Sadly, Amarjit was predeceased by Abnash a few weeks after learning of his cancer diagnosis and only a few months prior to his own passing.

He will be remembered as a great man, caring father, devoted husband and who was often described as a man of strong character and presence.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Cancer Agency www.bccancerfoundation.com .

Dear Taminder and Jasminder. I am so sorry for the losses of your Mom and Dad. Your dad was remarkable in how he supported Abnash and your family throughout not only Abnash’s health challenges, but in all other ways that a Dad supports his family. My day was always better when I got to say “hi” and exchange stories with your parents. It is a privilege to have had the opportunity to know all of you. Please know I will think of your family often. Greg
