Born in Sault Ste-Marie, ON, James Albert Agnew passed away peacefully at home after many years of suffering with heart problems, Scleroderma and Lymphoma. Jim attended the University of Toronto. After graduation, he worked as an engineer at Bell Canada in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. On retirement in 1974, with his wife Laurette (née Laplante), they moved to Sidney, BC where Jim had already purchased a house. They became members of various organizations. At that time the development of Home Computer was starting and that group was one of their first choices of activities. It provided the best way to communicate without delay with family and friends outside British Columbia. In 1978, they moved into their new home on the waterfront in North Saanich. They enjoyed travelling across Canada and the United States visiting families and doing the genealogy of the Agnew family branches. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Laurette; his sisters, Jean (Higgins), Mary (William), Miriam (Buchanan); sister-in-law, Doris (Fisher); nephews and nieces and all related families and friends. Special thanks are extended to the Vancouver Island Health Authority, Beacon Community Services and the Red Cross for the provision of equipment and personnel to make his days of suffering as comfortable as possible.
Honouring his wishes, there will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Scleroderma Association of BC or charity of your choice.
