Diane left for a more beautiful place on the morning of October 2, 2008 held tightly in the arms of her husband, Michael, this after an inspiring to witness 2 year battle with Cancer filled with the most courage and positive belief of overcoming the disease that anyone could imagine.
Diane spent her whole life in Victoria. In every facet of her life she entered the hearts of those many people she called friends. She still had friends from her childhood days and the Beaver/Home Hardware gang over 25 years developing hundreds of friendships, then in 2000 she joined Bob and F.A.S. seafood’s team. She developed a passion for the fishing industry and with all her heart loved to run a large commercial fishing operation. It was truly amazing to watch her dedication to her career as she would still daily check e-mails and follow up with co-workers via her laptop as she sat out on her deck, the computer on her blanket right to the last day.
She was a force beyond words and also loved to play hard as well. It was work or extreme holiday. Having been on over 11 cruises with her husband, Michael, with destinations from Venice to the Kingdom of Tonga, Northern Africa to Alaska and holidays from the Middle East to their favourite place on earth, Palm Springs, will never be the same. Her love for the game of golf will be missed; she’s chatted more than once with Tiger Woods and talked with Anika; she has played some of the most famous courses on earth. Good bye Diane, we will be together again. Her father is waiting for her, Edgar Simmons. Lovingly missed by her soul mate, Michael; mother, Marie Simmons; brother, Doug Simmons; her beautiful Japanese daughter, Ai; sister-in-law, Wendy; Shauna and Brad; the entire Simmons and Beale family; the entire Barron family; everyone at F.A.S. and everyone that has helped Mike through this very difficult time. Special thanks to all the Nurses, Doctors and caregivers that assisted Diane and Michael over the past 6 weeks. She was able to stay at home in her beautiful paradise because of the loving help. Diane, we will miss your captivating smile.
A Memorial Service will be held at MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 2:00 pm. A Beautiful Celebration of Diane’s life is to follow at, as Diane called it, Paradise Island View Beach, 7015 Island View Place.
