Born August 26, 1910 passed away June 23, 2008 at Resthaven Lodge, Sidney, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 1982. Their last home was by the ocean near Miracle Beach and she returned to Victoria following his death.
She will be missed and is remembered as a sweet kind lady by her sons, Gerry (Verna) Warren, Bill (Karen) Warren, and former daughter in law Elly, 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Phillis was born in Winnipeg but moved to Salmon Arm, BC as an infant with her parents Alan and Charlotte Clarke, he was a traveling salesman for a flour company. The family later moved to Mission where he operated a small store and then to Victoria where they operated a grocery store in Fairfield. She was an only child and loved to visit the big city, Vancouver with her mother.
In the early 30’s she met her husband-to-be Robert, when they were choir members at Fairfield United Church, but due to the insecurity of the depression they did not marry until 1939. While raising a family she sang in the St Paul’s Anglican Church and in the Linden Singers choirs. Her musical voice remained until near the end.
She participated in Seniors groups in Black Creek and on return to Victoria in 1983 she was active in the Fairfield Seniors Activity Group. She enjoyed nature and the outdoors spending many hours fishing with her husband, she rowing from the family boathouse "Woodsea" at Cole Bay, Saanich Inlet .
A family gathering will be held Sunday, July 6th, 1-4 PM in her remembrance at Gerry’s home, 8650 Ebor Terrace, North Saanich.
Special thanks to the care givers and staff at Resthaven Lodge where she lived for the past 3 years.
