Born on April 19, 1922 in New Hampton, Iowa, Helen’s family moved to Hope in the 1930s. Her active, generous married life as mother of four sons and community member was lived in Grand Forks and Vancouver.

Helen’s love of music and the arts guided much of her working life. She organized tours across Canada for Overture Concerts in the 1960s and 70s, and went on to hold administrative positions with several arts organizations, including the Surrey Arts Centre and the BC Pavilion at Spokane’s Expo. Wide reading, bird watching and gardening remained loves throughout.

In 1990 Helen moved from Banff to retire in Victoria, where she died, April 6, 2007.

She is survived by her brother, Ted Carpenter, and one sister, Zella Pennick. Also surviving her are sons, Rioh, Hoberly, Rhico and Philo, daughters-in-law, Lillian, Maureen, and Penny, as well as nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be conducted in McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson & Vancouver St., at 10:00 am on Monday, April 16th. Contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 107-1001 Cloverdale Ave., Victoria BC, V8X 4C9 are welcome.
