Maria Gigliotti passed away peacefully on January 5, 2006 at the Aberdeen Centre in Victoria, where she had been convalescing for the last few months.
Maria was born on May 6, 1920 in the small town of Cicala, Italy. She was one of five sisters and they all survived the Second World War with remarkable resourcefulness. After the war, she married Pasquale Gigliotti from a nearby town in 1946. They later emigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1954 in search of a better life.
In 1975, the family moved to Victoria, BC, where her husband established the Maple Leaf barber shop on Blenkinsop Road and they all enjoyed a new “West Coast” life. Maria has always worked hard to support the family and was the “magnet” for regular gatherings of family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Pasquale; two sons, Frank and Peter (Giselle) and her grand-daughter, Tania. All of the other sisters have passed away, except one (Angelina) living in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Prayers will be offered in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets, on Tuesday, January 10th at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be conducted from MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL on Wednesday, January 11th at 10:00 a.m.,
