BANKY, Alan James Wyborn. Born Toronto Dec. 18, 1963, died Oct. 11, 2003 in Victoria. Loving husband, best friend and hero of Keri, devoted father of Nadja, son of Jake and Kathy (Hornby Island), son in-law of Gerry and Doreen O’Neil (Mill Bay), brother of John (Nanaimo) and Ben (Vancouver), brother and brother-in-law of, Denene and Kevin Clark (Edmonton, AB)and grandson of Frances Huff (London, Ont.) When Alan entered a room he filled it with happiness. He had so much love to give to everyone and everyone was his best friend. He took care of us all. His energy and enthusiasm was boundless. Alan truly inspired us all to try our best and embrace life to its fullest. Alan attended school on Toronto Island, Ont., in White Rock B.C. and in Victoria, B.C. at George Jay Elementary, Central Junior Secondary and graduated at Victoria High School. He joined the cadets at age 13 and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillary after graduation. He served in Lahr, Germany and Ste. Foy, Quebec. He was runner-up as best NATO soldier in Europe and was chosen to serve as the Queen’s honour guard at the ceremony attending the Patriation of the Constitution. He transferred to Air Observers Corps in Edmonton and then to RCAF Search and Rescue, 442 Squadron, Comox. Alan participated in countless high danger rescues on land and sea.
