January 22, 1950 – June 7, 2008
It is with great sadness I, Janny, announce the passing of David Allen Doty. He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Isabel Doty. He is survived by our children, Jason (Dawn), Sean (Tori) and Karin; our granddaughters, Hanna and Teagan; his biological family, Bill, Brenda and Beverly, as well as many relatives and friends. David graduated from the University of Alberta’s Medical School in 1973. He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served overseas with the UN forces in both Egypt and Israel in 1975. Afterwards he graduated from Dalhousie University with his Fellowship in Otolaryngology in 1980. We set up the first ENT practice in Campbell River in 1980 and moved to Victoria in 1985. He had a practice here until 2002 when an injury prevented him from continuing on in his chosen profession. He was the first SSPS President to run for two consecutive years, where he proved to be a formidable opponent and a champion of his fellow doctors. In lieu of flowers, which he was allergic to, he would appreciate donations in memoriam be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation’s Pediatric ENT Department. Surgery was his passion and he loved working with children. As always David will be "looking forward to your thoughts!".
An informal Celebration of Life is being held on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 6:00 pm at 3045 McAnally Road.

Hello,
I was a patient of Dr. Doty’s for over a decade as a young child. I had 11 sets of tubes and he inserted them all! I remember his loud voice that was even louder once my tubes started working!
I had no idea he passed away and was saddened to read about it just now.
I think of him from time to time with loving thoughts. He made the experience of surgery memorable in a good way. He was also my grandmother’s ENT dr.
He was a great man.
