Leslie – James B. (Jim) died peacefully at the Jubilee Hospital on Thursday, December 25, 2008. He was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on March 6, 1915. Predeceased by his wife Aileen in 1997, Jim is survived by his son James of Chevy Chase, MD, his daughter Fiona Holloway of Edlesborough, England and his two granddaughters Grace and Hannah Leslie.
Jim and Aileen were married in Aberdeen on September 16, 1939 immediately after the outbreak of World War II. Jim had already started to serve in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He served in Scotland and Panama returning to Aberdeen in 1945.
After working in a number of different businesses in Aberdeen and playing badminton for Scotland Jim emigrated to Canada in 1954 joining Alcan Aluminium in Montreal. He was transferred to Jamaica and spent the next 15 years there in progressively more responsible positions. In 1969 Jim and Aileen moved to Calcutta, India where Jim became Managing Director of the Indian Aluminium Company – an Alcan subsidiary. After seven years in India Jim and Aileen moved to Dublin, Ireland for three years before retiring to Victoria in 1978.
Jim was an active member of the Victoria Golf Club for many years. For the past ten years he lived at Somerset House on Dallas Road and was an active participant in many events there. He particularly enjoyed playing bridge and snooker with his many friends at Somerset House.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Tuesday, January 6th at 3:00 pm. A reception will follow in the McCall’s Family Centre.
