With immense sadness and love we say goodbye.

Mom was born, raised & lived her whole life in the greater Victoria area. She was married to husband Dave Kennedy (deceased) for almost 63 years.

She was the proud Mom to 6 adoring children & spouses; Linda (Ray), David (Jean), Susan (Don), Laura (Marty), Karen, Sandra (Jim), 14 grandchildren; Jamie, Jen, Denise,  Kris, Marcie, Jessica, Kelsey, Melissa, Lindsey, Kevin, Sam, Katie, Amy, Steven, 21 great-grandchildren; Chloe, Macy, Connor, Sadie, Calli, Ryley, Haylee, Taiga, Clint, Maia, Piper, Taryn, Evy, Benson, Mason, Fisher, Ezra, Arlo, Nathan, Oscar, Weyland, and 1 great-great grandchild; David. Mom had the ability to make each one of us feel special. We were all her favourites!

Sylvia was the only daughter of Bill & Ethel Bryant & was the oldest of 3 children. She was pre-deceased by brother George & wife Ivah. She leaves her devoted brother Bill who was a constant in her life, especially in later years (Marion deceased). Also predeceased by sister & brother in law’s Lil & Lawrie Herriott & Irene & Al Haines, nephew Scott Bryant.

She established deep roots in Saanich & lived on McLellan Street for 46 years in the house that dad built. Mom & Dad had great friends & neighbours on McLellan. They retired to Eagle Lane in View Royal where they made many new friends. They were the reason that she remained in her home for so many years. Their friendship was invaluable.

She was known for her beautiful smile and her ability to make friends with everyone. Spending time with her large, extended family was the highlight of her day.

Sylvia & Dave enjoyed many remarkable trips to Europe, UK, Eastern Canada, Hawaii, Reno & cruises to Panama Canal & Alaska to name a few.

She was a dedicated Tuesday afternoon bowler at Town & Country Lanes for 42 years, loved a visit to the Casino, Bingo at Juan de Fuca seniors (where she volunteered) going for a drive – especially to the ocean & seeing the cruise ships in port.  Mom loved a good storm, Trivia, to follow a fire truck, hearing “what’s new”, watching Jeopardy, garage sales, collecting fine China. She was a master pie baker; her turkey & roast beef dinners were legendary.

Although we accept it was her time to go, she will be missed immensely by all who knew & loved her. She dedicated her life to care for her family & others.

When we asked how she wanted to be remembered, she said “as a friendly person”. She fulfilled her wish.

Very special thanks to her amazing Dr., George Sayad & team Grace & Maddison, Heart at Home Pharmacy & Nurse Milany, Caregivers including Vergie & Sharon who treated her like family & the wonderful team of caring Health Care workers from community health who enabled us to keep Mom in her home as she wished until her final night in Hospice. The Hospice team are exemplary.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm.

Donations may be made to Victoria Hospice or BC Cancer Agency.

Sylvia, such a wonderful, and kind person with a huge heart. Part of the McLellan Street neighborhood, the Kennedy home was always a hub. She always had fresh baked goods for when we got home from school. I have the best memories of your dear Mom. I loved her.

May she be reunited with Dave. And, I like to think she’s found Matt and Inge Kroppmanns, and Reg Waggoner, and they are having a happy hour, just like the good ‘ol days.

Soar high dear Sylvia, you will be remembered by many, and never forgotten.

    Susan, Linda and families.
I am so sorry for the loss of your mum, she was a lovely lady and very kind. I was fortunate enough to be invited to dinner a few times and share her wonderful roast beef. You are all in my thoughts.
