Born October 9, 1957, Curtis passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Predeceased by his father Frank “Turvy” in 2007. He will be missed, and lovingly remembered, by his wife Michele, sons Evan and Clayton; his mom Annie, brothers Ward (Lauren), Aaron (Heather) and sister, Ellen (Rob); sisters-in-law Gayle (Bob), Shaun, and Aaron (Tina); his numerous nieces and nephews, whom he adored. As well as his extended family members and many wonderful friends.
We would like to thank Dr. Ewan Cadger, his advocate from day one; Dr. JP McGhie and all of the incredibly caring doctors, nurses and the staff of the Saanich Peninsula VIHA community that came across our paths over the last 27 plus years.
There will be no service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mount Newton Centre Society’s Loan Cupboard or the BC Cancer Foundation.

Martyn Ward I met Curtis at NSRG where he was a passionate and deceptively humble competitor. I remember him mentioning his tumour to me one day as an incidental part of a broader conversation – he never made a big deal of it. I remember also my horror when I realized how long he and his family had lived with the day-to-day uncertainty. I always admired his calm acceptance of his situation, tinged as it was in the latter years with increasing frustration as his health gradually deteriorated and he lost his independence. We have missed him at NSRG for these last few years and will continue to do so. It is some small consolation that he left on his own terms with his characteristic quiet determination.

Ray Johnson I wish to offer my condolences to Curtis’ family and friends. I met Curtis through shooting at the North Saanich Rod and Gun Club. He was passionate about this pastime. Curtis was a soft spoken, thoughtful, kind, and generous person. He mentioned his health issues only in passing, not lingering on them, or bemoaning his situation. I looked forward to seeing him at the fun shoots and missed him when he couldn’t participate any more. He had a radiant smile, and was a pleasure to be with. I hope to be as brave as him under trying circumstances. He always saw the good side of things. Rest in peace Curtis.

Uncle Doug (Strong) ❤️ The news was anticipated over the last several months, so your email, Ward, was not a surprise. Curt was resolute about how we wanted to handle his remaining years which he did with grace and most often good humor. Smart, friendly, devoted to family, Curt was also incredibly aware of the world around him and was always devoted to being the best son, husband, and father that he could be. Throughout his life, family was always important. As his brain cancer diminished his cognitive acuteness, he plowed onward, and his family never lost their support and love. He gave us a full life of goodness and while the last few years took a radical change for Curt, Michele, Evan, and Clayton – along with the rest of the Strong clan – he leaves us with bountiful memories. A truly remarkable man.

Bradford Haley So sorry for the news of Curtis’ passing. I truly believe that Curtis was the bravest person I have ever known. We have corresponded for years through this terrible disease. He has always been so amazingly philosophical about his condition, something I could never have stood up to. I will never forget you my friend. May you rest in peace at last.

To Michelle, Evan and Clayton,
Though it has been some years since we connected we will always remember Curtis and his many kindnesses towards Eldon, Albert’s brother, even with his own health difficulties. You were both dear friends and neighbours in Saanichton and we have fond memories of you both and your “boys” who are now no doubt fine young men. Our hearts go out to you at this time and we pray that you will know how much the friendship we enjoyed with you both is still a valued treasure.
