Shih Hua Chao was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She left this world peacefully on September 11, 2024 at the age of 96. Shih Hua Chao was born in Beijing, China on July 20, 1928. She and her late husband Shih Tsun Lee had 5 children. In 1957 she, her husband and children left Hong Kong and settled in Kuala Belait, Brunei where they worked very hard and opened their store Hong Kong Arts and Crafts which they ran for nearly 40 years. After her husband passed away in 1991, she retired to Victoria, BC.

Shih took great pride in creating her home and garden, especially her flowers. She had a green thumb for all kinds of flowers and trees. But more than her garden she especially loved all animals. She easily brought people together and made friends wherever she went. She was encouraging, loving, supportive and dependable to all.

Shih Hua Chao is survived by Shu Lian, Shu Jung (Thomas), Kong Sang (Helen), Heung Sang, Lung Sang (Linda) and 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Shih Hua will never be far from our hearts and will be forever in our memories.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the BC SPCA spca.bc.ca.

A memorial and entombment will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4664 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 2 pm.

I have lost a very dear friend to me. I never thought 2 people so far apart in age could connect in a way that Awa and I did. She loved going to china town for coffee, shopping, watching funny animal videos together and our daily buddha meditation with T’ai Chi.she was so young in spirit and often wished she could be younger again
So she could enjoy more life and laughter. she got along with everyone and loved with all her heart. There is a very deep sadness at vccc where she lived, her présence was noticed when she entred à room and now her absence is very felt…she named me “ling” and I called her “Awa” cause neither of us knew the others language:)..it was very special in my heart and I will always be greatful to have had this special lady in my life as my friend.
    Rest easy my fancy friend
Ill always miss and love you
    Love Ling xo
