Nancy Dorothy Forsyth (nee Tinsley) died peacefully on August 28th, 2024, at 97 years old in Victoria, B.C. A beloved mother, aunt, grandparent, and a devoted friend, Nancy will be missed by many. Her love of life, fierce independence and determination will continue to be an inspiration for all who knew her.
Nancy was born October 29, 1926, in Suffolk England. She immigrated to the west coast of Canada with her then husband, Ian Inglis, in 1947, where she raised her family first in Victoria and later in Ottawa. Eventually, Nancy settled in the Beaches in Toronto with her husband, David Forsyth.
Nancy had a full life, working, volunteering, gardening and travelling the world, but most of all she enjoyed the companionship of family and friends. Nancy had a varied career including working in retail, as a technician at an early genetics lab, as an assistant to a president of the Federation of Medical Women of Canada, and briefly as a personal assistant to Hillary Weston. Later, volunteering at the Gardiner Museum, which was a highlight of her retirement.
Always elegant, Nancy’s interest in fashion also included being a skilled seamstress. She enjoyed being outdoors and loved animals, supporting several environmental protection and animal rights organizations and greeting every dog she met with a treat.
In 2010, Nancy moved to Victoria, where she continued to enjoy neighbourhood walks, shopping and family gatherings. She always said that her signature colour, orange, brightened the day – just as Nancy brightened others’.
Nancy is survived by her three sons and their partners: Richard and Kathy Inglis, Mark Inglis and Evelyn Chan, James Inglis and Julie Clark; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
