Richard (Dick) was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His father, Henry George, was a decorated WW1 British veteran before becoming and RCMP officer, and his mother, Sigridur Johanna Kristjanson was a nurse who graduated from Winnipeg General Hospital in the early 1930’s. As a family, they moved to different Canadian communities and cities every two years until Henry’s retirement to Calgary in 1950. Aunt Olaf joined the family as much needed support after Henry passed away in 1952.
Richard graduated in Civil Engineering from University of Alberta in Edmonton in 1960. He was a Water Resources Engineer with extensive experience in administration of technical programs with Federal and Provincial agencies, local governments, consulting engineering firms and the general public. He lived and worked as a Professional Engineer in most Canadian provinces over a 40 year career.
Richard and his wife Sandra enjoyed life in Victoria and spent 25 years as boatowners cruising, fishing and holidaying in the Gulf Islands. They were members of Royal Colwood Golf Club for many years and enjoyed yearly winter vacations travelling and cruising to many places in the world. They also enjoyed gardening, dancing and exercising at local gyms. They were poodle lovers, having the pleasure of owning three clever poodles over 50 years.
He will be missed by all who knew him.

I was a colleague of Dick working in BC Water Resources. I can vouch for his excellent technical work particularly in floodplain mapping, which remains as a considerable legacy. Due to his good work many in the province have benefitted from the trauma and losses of overbank flooding.
