Concettina [Concetta] Rosina Caterina Cisotto

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Concettina [Concetta] Rosina Caterina Cisotto, while surrounded by love, on Saturday, March 9^th, in Victoria, British Columbia. She was 87 years old.

She will be deeply missed by her husband Mario, daughters Maria and Cristina (John) and son Alberto, grandchildren Vanessa (Will), Peter (Christine), Joshua (Chantal), Brandon (Gabby), Nadia, Katrina (Keaton) and Mario (Juanita), and nine great grandchildren with one on the way. As well left to mourn her passing are her brother Augusto Romeo (Caterina), sisters Maria Falvo and Antonietta Ritrovato, sister-in-law Rina Romeo, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends. She was predeceased by both parents Anna and Antonio Romeo, sister Rafaella Cristiano and brother-in-law Santo Cristiano of Catanzaro, Italy, brother Giuseppe Romeo and sister-in-law Rose Romeo, brother Domenic Romeo and sister-in-law Lugina Romeo, brother Oreste Romeo and brothers-in-law Joe Falvo and Giuseppe Ritrovato, and son-in-law Gerald Heron.

Concetta was born in Amato, Italy on November 29^th, 1936. She immigrated to Canada with her mother Anna, brother Oreste and sister Antonietta in 1953 at the age of 17, to join her brothers Joe, Augusto and Domenic who had already settled in Transcona, Winnipeg. Concetta worked in the manufacturing industry – it was at Freed &Freed in Winnipeg that she met her husband Mario in September of 1956. They were married six months later on April 6^th, 1957 and together have celebrated nearly 67 years of marriage. Their love, commitment and devotion for one another has served as an example for all of her family. They welcomed and embraced their children born in 1958, 1962 and 1967. In 1994, they moved to Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island where they thoroughly enjoyed their beautiful new home and twenty-one years of fun-filled summers with their children and grand-children. In 2015, she and her husband moved to Victoria, British Columbia.

Family was everything for Concetta. She was a very warm, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took so much pride in supporting and watching her children and grandchildren grow, and had so much pleasure in sharing stories of her childhood in Italy, and imparting traditional Italian culture upon them all. She was an accomplished seamstress, excellent cook, skilled gardener, and loved to entertain family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed sewing for her children when they were younger, cooking and baking traditional Italian food for large family gatherings, baking bread and treats with her grandchildren, and spending hours tending to both her flower and vegetable gardens in Qualicum beach. Another one of her favourite hobbies was crocheting. She made many beautiful crocheted tablecloths and bedspreads. Concetta established very close friendships while in Qualicum, and often spent time getting together to visit and play shared favourite card games. She loved dancing and music, and in her final year in particular, could often be found singing her favourite Italian songs when in the company of her family members. This brought great joy and comfort to her. During her time in Qualicum Beach, she traveled countless times to Winnipeg with her husband Mario, to attend almost every important event in the lives of her grandchildren. This included births, baptisms, First Communions, family weddings and graduations. All of this was a testament to the depth of her love and dedication to her family. Her legacy will live through her children and all of their children. She will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her, forever in their memories and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and palliative care team at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their kindness and compassion during Concetta’s final days. Also, a heartfelt thank you for the loving care and kindness provided by the staff, nurses and care workers on the third floor at Beacon Hill Villa in the last five months.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 13^th, at 12:30 p.m. at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive with Father Alfredo Monacelli presiding. Entombment will follow at Royal Oak Burial Park. Reception to follow at the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens.

Pallbearers will be son Alberto Cisotto, grandsons Peter Heron and Mario Cisotto, son-in-law John Schriemer, nephew-in-law Ed Pratt, and family member John Heron.
