Linda passed on January 30, 2024, in Victoria, BC. She was born on September 30, 1953, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
Linda will be greatly missed by her husband William, her children Maxfield (partner Rebecca), Jennifer (husband Nicolas), and her grandson Henry.
Family and friends were very important to Linda, and she will be missed by her siblings Robert (wife Marney and daughter Serena), Kathryn (husband Randy and sons Liam and Sascha), and Barbara. She will also be missed by her many other relatives and friends, some of whom she’s known since high school.
After getting married in 1982 Linda and Bill settled in Victoria, where Linda worked at Playfair Toys for many years before moving to Bolen Books. There she got to recommend children’s books to all ages and chat with friends walking through Hillside Mall.
Linda enjoyed a simple life where she had many interests, including nature, reading, and writing, and left behind a legacy of learning, kindness, and generosity.
Linda’s family asks that in lieu of flowers, condolences may be offered below.

Judy (Longpre) Shirlaw I first knew Linda in Winnipeg at Oakenwald School. We lost touch when she and her family left Winnipeg for the Westcoast. We got together again when I moved to Victoria in the late 70’s. I would stop in at Hillside Bolen Books and have lunch with her. I later moved back to Vancouver where she and Max and Jennifer visited us in North Vancouver. We kept in touch through Christmas
greetings and then lost touch again. I retired to Vancouver Island 2
years ago and had been trying to find her again
to no avail. My condolences to the Family!
A lovely soul!.

I am so sorry to read of Linda’s passing. I so loved working with her at the bookstore. Such fun. Her sense of humor was so subtle.
Linda was a very lovely lady, a true example to all of us.
I still miss all of you. Please take care.
Max, I’m still keeping it real!

Marilyn Weeks My heart broke when I heard the news of Linda’s passing. We worked our first summer job together at the YMCA summer day camp in 68. We remained friends over the years sharing the joys of our children and grandchildren together. We both even have grandsons named Henry. Even with my moving to Australia 32 years ago did not affect our friendship. It was the type you could go years without seeing or hearing from each other and catch up like it was only yesterday. My memories of Linda will always be her beautiful smile and kind gentle manner. I treasure our last visit together only a few years ago. I will miss you my dear friend.

Linda Jones I am so sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. My heart goes out to Bill, Jen and Max, and, of course, Henry. Linda can be summed up in one word – KIND – although there were many other wonderful attributes she had. I was one of the many folks who enjoyed a chat with Linda at Hillside Mall. I met Linda at Margaret Jenkins School many years ago. It was the first time I had ever shared a class with another “Linda”, and it was the first time for her that she had shared a class with only one other Linda! We couldn’t use a middle name to help, as ours was also the same – Ann with no “e”. She was such a gentle soul, and I never knew her to be anything but positive, and that was the aura that always surrounded her. I wish peace to her family, and know that there are a lot of people sending love your way.

Madeleine Tattersall Butler Linda was a beautiful woman. I am so sorry to see this. I first met her at Playfair. We always talked. My children are a bit older than hers and we lived in the same area; our kids went to the same schools. Then, I saw her at Bolens all the time, and in the neighborhood, often. I was just asking about her at Bolens the other day, looking for her. She was the dearest sweetest person, I could not believe she was real at first. She loved her family dearly, and I am just so sorry – I will never forget her and from my perch, I will miss her. I will miss her very much and knowing her and what kind of person she was has changed my life

Freda Nobbs First at Playfair Toys, and then at Bolen Books, Linda graced my daughters’ early lives; steady, kind and thoughtful, she always had time for them, as she did for so many children. She was one of the best listeners I’ve ever met, and her interest and concern for others was evident. I had the privilege of working with her for many years at the bookstore; her enthusiasm and delight in new discoveries and new ideas was central to the pleasure she took in helping customers, some of which sought her out for years, appreciating her special kind of caring assistance.
Her legacy, however, is clearly her family; Jen, Max and Bill, she was so proud of you all, quite rightly.
I’m so sorry that she left so soon, but so glad that she was here.
Celebration of Linda’s life will be Saturday March 23rd 7pm at Bolen’s
