It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly loved Mother, Grandmother, and Matriarch of our family, Franciszka (Franja) Simic, who passed away peacefully surrounded by love into the arms of angels on Feb 5, 2024. Predeceased by her husband Aleksa and daughter Wanda, Franciszka is survived by her loving children, Terri (Willy), Kris (Frank), and Daniel (Addey), and her grandchildren (William, Naaron, Nicholas, Keely, and Ila-Grace).
Franciszka was born in Tarnopol, Poland and survived the Second World War as a child in a Nazi work camp, where both her father and brother died. After the war, Franciszka met Aleksa, who was working for the British Army in a displaced person camp where they lived until they immigrated to Canada in 1956. Mom and Dad moved from Ontario to BC in 1986 to join their children and become part of the Polish community in Victoria at the White Eagle Hall, where they had many friends and memorable times.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Parish, 4040 Nelthorpe Street, Victoria, BC, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 1:30pm with Father Jan Grotkowski, Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Royal Oak Burial Park. At the conclusion of the Graveside Service, friends are invited to join the family for a Reception in the Church Hall.
