I was deeply saddened with the new’s of Al’s recent passing. He was a good friend and a fellow Royal Banker, who I have known for many years and whose company I always enjoyed. His smile was infectious as was his friendly outgoing personality. He was always willing to engage and to listen and had a deep level of understanding while being kind and compassionate. One of the highlights in my life was working with Al as a Hospice volunteer facilitating a Men’s Grief Support Group in Qualicum Beach a few years ago. Al’s involvement, along with his genuine caring nature and depth of commitment enriched everyone’s experience. I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to Tiki and all family members. He will be missed but not forgotten.

I didn’t know Al well, but I wanted to write this message because I knew, if only from the cheerful smiles and brief conversations, that Al was one of those people that can make all the difference in your day without you even realizing.

It’s difficult to understand how important the neighbour who waves to you as you bike down the street is, until you realize the size of the hole that is left behind when they are gone.

Al made me smile. Al always waved. Al lives on in the hearts of those he loved and was loved by, but also in each and every stranger who he made a friend to greet.

    My deepest condolences.

We will both miss our cheerful morning chats with Alan as he rode his bicycle around Qualicum. Sometimes Alan would do a complete detour on his bike just to say hello. Alan and his beloved dog, Obie, were our first friendly faces when we moved into the neighbourhood. We will miss his warm smiles, soft chuckles and his life stories on our morning chats. Our neighbourhood has one less freindly, welcoming face. So blessed to have known you, Alan.

I remember Al from our cycling group. He had a great sense of humour. I watched for his photos in the local paper. Condolences to Tiki and the family.

Al, with Little Joe, then Obie and bike – that is how I knew and will remember him. Al always had a ready smile and time to chat when our paths crossed in the neighbourhood, on the trail or in town. I’ll miss those pleasant encounters with Al and share your sadness at his passing,

My condolences to the family. I have known Al for many years as a fellow Royal banker when we were in Victoria during the 1980’s period. A true gentleman who I considered to be a good friend. Rest in peace. Bob Lindahl

We have on a wall in our house a photograph taken by Allan. It will be a constant reminder of both a friend and all those good times spent living in Qualicum Beach.
