Bill passed away on November 3, 2023, in the home where he lived and raised his family since 1959. Born, March 31, 1932, in Hanna, AB, he moved to Victoria, BC, in 1947, where he met the love of his life, Doris Mae (nee Flett), and married her on May 15, 1954. He is survived by Doris and his six children, Norm (Anna), Donna, Ron (Lori), Millie, Terry (Lisa), Gord (Marie), 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren – each of whom he was proud and loved with all his heart.
Family and friends were “everything” to Bill and he fostered caring relationships with a multitude of people of all ages and walks of life. He dearly loved his two sisters, Millie (Fred-deceased) and Evelyn (Steve) and their families; he also wholly welcomed Doris’ family and embraced them as his, sharing many memorable family occasions throughout the years. Celebrations have always been very large gatherings at the Wickett household!
Bill was a proud, and the longest serving, member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 324. He also had many years of enjoyment with his fishing, bowling, curling, and golfing “buddies.” He will be missed!
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Delta Hotel – Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort, Arbutus Ballroom, 100 Harbour Road, Victoria, on Sunday, November 26, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, so that those who knew Bill can come and share their stories and memories of him with his family and friends.

Alan and Cecile MacNaughton In 1953 I started work at Yarrows as an apprentice where I met Bill in the pipe Shop. He was all business, no fooling around and a great guy to be next to. I have worked beside him, under him and with him for so many years, and I shall miss him dearly.

Garry Bettridge Can anyone name a Nicer Gentleman than “Bill Wickett” . I first met Bill when I was dispatched to Yarrows as my first ever job coming to Canada from New Zealand in 1974 , he met me with a smile and looked me over a bit, as I came to work in Rugby shorts,a Tee shirt & safety work boots, “I hope you have some coveralls” were his first words then shook my hand & said , I see you are a Plumber, Well I’ll put you to work with Jim Peers. How can a guy have such luck on the same Day ?, Meeting & working for Two of the greatest guys I have met in my Life time. Bill always instilled confidence in People & encouraged younger people to take on resposibilities in leadership within our Trade Group. Ivan Crossett As Business Manager of Local 324 from 1977 to 1998 I was very gratefully for the knowledge and help that I received from Bill as I was at a total loss of how shipyards worked. The local has truly lost one of if not the most important members during his working life and after retirement.

Judy Armstrong I met Bill and his wife, Doris, in the early 1990s at their home in Victoria. I remember many fun and insightful conversations with Bill around their kitchen nook. I especially loved his sense of humour, his generosity and his delight in hosting his family and friends when they visited. Thanks to their daughter and my dear friend, Donna, I stayed with the Wicketts many times through the years and was always welcomed as part of their family. When I lived in their house for a couple of weeks in 2018, Bill ‘put up’ with my singing in their basement when I was practicing at full volume to prepare for a house concert. With a twinkle in his eye, Bill said that ‘it was no problem as he would just turn down his hearing aids’!! I am filled with precious memories as I reflect on my experiences in the Wickett household. Sending my love to all the family and wishing Bill well in his next adventure in Spirit.

Donna & Wade Robinson Whether walking passed his family home, the ball park or see him elsewhere will always be Mr. Wickett. I will remember him fondly and with a smile across my face. He was a caring man who watched out for not only his kids but the rest of us in the neighborhood helping us when we fell off our bikes, roller skates or skateboards coming down the hill in front if their house.
