Marilyn Bullock, a beloved mother, friend, and cherished member of her community, peacefully departed this world on October 5, 2023, at the age of 79. Her life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and devotion.

Born on May 23, 1944, Marilyn’s story began in Etobicoke, Ontario, where she was lovingly adopted by Leslie and Elsie Summerfield. From the very beginning, it was clear that Marilyn was destined to touch the lives of those around her with her unique blend of kindness, humor, and grace. She was the proud mother of three children: Julia, Joe, and Cathy, whom she loved dearly and unconditionally.

Marilyn’s life journey took her to the skies as an Air Canada ticket agent, where she served with warmth and elegance, making each passenger’s journey a little bit brighter. Her love for adventure and travel was evident in the stories she shared with family and friends.  Known for her playful spirit, Marilyn had a penchant for practical jokes that could turn any ordinary day into a delightful surprise.  Her laughter was contagious, and her sense of humor brought joy to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Despite her playful nature, Marilyn was very private, often keeping her personal life hidden from view. However, her heart was an open book when it came to her family. She spoke of her children and their achievements with immense pride and love. To those who were fortunate enough to enter her home, a special treasure awaited on the inside of her kitchen cupboard doors: a door for each of her children adorned with their photos. She took immense joy in showing these pictures to anyone who would listen, sharing her children’s accomplishments with a heart full of love.

Marilyn’s passion for nature and her artistic soul led her to own a florist shop in King City, where she nurtured the beauty of flowers and shared their radiance with her community. Her talent for creating arrangements that touched the heart of those who received them was a testament to her creativity and compassion.

Throughout her life, Marilyn was devoted to her faith and community, finding solace and strength in her congregation at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Victoria, British Columbia. Her unwavering faith guided her and enriched the lives of those around her.

Marilyn Bullock’s memory will forever be cherished by her children, family, and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.

A celebration of Life will be held at a later date at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Victoria, where her spirit will continue to shine. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity close to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

Marilyn, your laughter and love will remain in our hearts, a testament to the beauty of the life you lived. Rest in peace, dear Marilyn, knowing that your memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved you.

    Dear Marilyn,

    Rest in Peace dear friend. We shared so many childhood days together. We were best friends and had great fun. All the beautiful attributes you had as a child you carried with you throughout your entire life. Thank you for your kindness, love of adventure and the sharing of your faith. You loved CGIT at the United Church when you were a young girl and even gave me a bible. When my dad died when I was 12 I didn’t need professional help—–I had you! May your dear soul rest in peace and may we meet again in the arms of our Father. I will keep you in my heart. Love,Lynda

    Our deepest condolences to Marilyn’s family. I will forever treasure my memories of Marilyn. First getting to know her in January 2001, I got to spend a great deal of time with her in Victoria. Her favourite thing to do was laugh, as well as staying true to herself and her faith. She loved anything that involved adventure, outdoors, food, tennis, having fun, Church activities, seasonal celebrations, and everything in between. She definitely was ‘one-of a-kind’ and has left a profound impression on me. Arthur and I will truly miss her. Rest in peace, dear Marilyn. ❤️

  • James Bay Thrifty Foods Staff

    Our heart felt condolences to Marilyn’s children. Marilyn was a very special customer of ours at Thrifty Foods James Bay. We always treated her like a VIP when she shopped, all the cashiers knew her by her first name and when you greeted her with a smile she lit right up and loved every moment of it. She loved her 6 pkg Muffins, Deli sandwiches, hot cooked meals and non alcoholic wine. She loved giving advice on how to keep cut Tulips living longer. About how much she loved playing tennis with her kids and because of how many years she played she wore her shoulder out and just watches it now. When there was a match on TV that day she said she had to hurry home so she could pour a glass of her wine and scream at the TV. Marilyn always wore her signature black coat, hat, purse and gloves no matter what the temperature was outside. She seemed like a very classy lady inside and out With a great sense of humour. We not only made Marilyn’s day but she really made our day too knowing her a little more each time she visited. Marilyn you will be missed in our daily routines but will never be forgotten ❤️

    Dear Marilyn;

    We had many telephone conversations over the years and one I cherished was the one a week before you passed. We always referred to each other by our Air Canada signs -QE and GM. We shared trips, marriages, and the birth of our children. When you last visited me in Ottawa, we visited the site where the soldier was killed. We travelled to LA in the sixties and bought mini dresses and saw the Pat Boone show together. I thought you were so brave to move to Victoria all by yourself and start a new life. I remember my trip to Victoria and you met me at the airport with a bouquet of tulips. We had so much fun. A week before you passed, we had talked and you got so emotional, you told me how much our friendship meant to you and how happy you were that I never forgot you. Thank you my friend for your love and friendship through the years. Hopefully we will meet again in a happier place.

    Stella (QE)
