Penny Margaret Young (nee Rose), died peacefully on October 1, 2023.
Penny was born and raised in Winnipeg and lived there with her loving parents Benjamin and Jean Rose until she was eighteen.
In 1959 Penny moved to Vancouver to attend the VGH School of Nursing, from which she proudly graduated as a registered nurse in 1961. Penny married Michael Young in 1962, and together they settled in Victoria, BC and raised their two children, Maureen and Christine. Penny is survived by Maureen (Erik), Christine (Alex), and grandchildren Adrian, Sofie, Angus, Graeme, Liam, and Michael.
Penny worked as a registered nurse for many years and was particularly proud of her 25 years of service at Victoria Hospice, providing palliative care for patients and their families. Penny developed a deep passion for palliative care over these years and forged many treasured friendships with fellow staff and volunteers.
Penny will be missed by her many close friends, including life-long friends Jayne and Pat. Our beloved Mum will be remembered for her kindness and generosity of spirit, supporting friends and family during difficult times, her loving bond with her cats, and pride and love for her family.
We wish to send a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Charles Manor for their tireless care and compassion. Mum developed a very close bond with the staff during her two years at St. Charles and frequently shared her gratitude for the love and comfort she received there.
We love you mum, will miss you everyday, but we take comfort knowing you are with your loving kitty, Chloe now.
In Penny’s honour, and to celebrate her life, please join us at St. Matthias church 600 Richmond (at Richardson), Victoria, BC, on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 2pm, with reception to follow at the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, we would ask that any contributions be made to Victoria Hospice.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Penny was a wonderful colleague at Hospice and a friend for many years after. She was always so brave, resourceful and kind. I am unable to attend on Nov 11 but my thoughts will be with you.
