In loving memory of Maria São João (‘Joana’) Cabecinha.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother (avó), Maria.
She fought a courageous battle before passing peacefully on September 4th, 2023, at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Maria was predeceased by her loving husband, José. She is survived by her sons Antonio and Francisco (Ann) and her daughter Filomena (Louis); her grandchildren Brandon, Ashley, Serena, Melissa, Desiree, Jennifer and Adrian.
Maria was born in São Miguel, Azores, and immigrated to Canada in 1958 to join José, who immigrated the year prior. She was a proud Canadian citizen and equally proud of her Portuguese heritage. She was very involved in the Portuguese community, and in her faith, but her greatest joy was her family. “Descanse em paz, linda alma.”
Rosary to be held at 9:30 AM, Friday, September 15th, 2023, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 4635 Elk Lake Drive, with a funeral mass at 10:00 AM, and interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.
Our thanks to the nurses, care aids and doctors at Selkirk Seniors Village and at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. You are all appreciated.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
