Gerri Repka, of Victoria. B.C., passed away on August 5, 2023, after a long and brave battle with Parkinson’s and dementia.

Gerri was born on June 11, 1941, in Digby, Nova Scotia, to Harriet (nee Cowan) and Freeman Edgar. The second eldest of nine siblings, Gerri moved to Calgary as a small child and lived there for most of her life.

Always a hard worker, with a lively wit, Gerri was the first in her family to go on to higher education, gaining a degree in sociology from the University of Calgary and subsequently having a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry running clinical trials for Alberta Health Services and then GlaxoSmithKline.

Gerri was extremely well loved by her children, Katrina, Yvan, and Melina, and by her grandchildren Noah, Delaney, Henry, and Nick. Throughout her life she gathered a number of loyal friends, and was always the life of the party at gatherings with her siblings and their numerous offspring.

Passionate about gardening, Gerri filled her home with warmth and kindness – she will be greatly missed by all those who had the good fortune of knowing her.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I am blessed to have known Gerri for over 60 years and been able to call her my best friend. We met in business college in Calgary. In those days we had to be able to type fast on old manual typewriters with no errors. We went on to various jobs and shared accommodation. Gerri was a wonderful cook.
We shared many special occasions – our birthdays/weddings and birth of our children.
I enjoyed many years of Gerri’s sense of humor. She left us with many happy memories.
    We will miss her!

I knew Gerri when I worked at Tom Baker Cancer Centre. A delightful lady to be around with a great sense of humour.

Very sad news indeed but offset by recalling many great memories of our times together.

Our family would like to pass on our condolences to your family. We knew Gerri when we were all young “marrieds” in Calgary. We are so much a part of each others’ history; there were so many good times. We were very much aware or your mother’s exceptional qualities as an individual and a friend. So sorry for your loss. She will be missed.

My condolences. I worked with Gerri at TBCC and then later when she retired was part of her walking group. She was so faithful, organized and fun. I loved her and missed her when she moved to Victoria.
    May she rest in peace.
